FSS, Pilot controlled lighting.

Alright, I've been a bit confused about this since first owning FS9.

What's up with the FSS frequencies in FS? They're listed in the maps and whatnot, but seem to serve no real purpose in-game.

Also - I was tweaking a few airports in AFCAD and one of the default airstrips I was working on had an FSS frequency with a note in the NAME field that mentioned that it was for remote lighting.

Now, is PCL at all possible in FS (without hard coding/extensive work), or did MS just kinda grab the real world freqs and dump them into the database, while not actually having any effect, thus wasting space?

I don't do  very much night-simming..exploring new scenery is 1/2 the fun. But what I've noticed, at some smaller fields anyway, is that FS9 treats PCL kinda like ATC. In other words, takes for granted that you, as a pilot "do" certain tasks automatically (tune radios, transponders, etc.)

I never took note of the exact distance, but I've seen dark airports light up when I got close. Maybe that's to simulate PCL ?

Far as FSS or things like TWEBs and Flight Watch.. maybe it'll be more realistic in FS10.
