How many engines does fs2004 support?

Postby JBaymore » Thu May 26, 2005 5:59 pm

In the variables for FSUIPC there is an entry for number of engines in fs2004.  And I have seen a couple of planes that appear to have more than 4 engines.

So can the program support more than four?

If so..... that 5th "engine" on could be the basis for a functional  APU.

best,

...............john

I've only known of for. I think even the Alphasim Peacemaker only has 4 simulated engines, the other 6 being visual only...

as far as I know, the AN225 can have all 6 controlled.

AFAIK the FS flight model only supports 4 engines. These can only be of the same type so an aircraft with mixed powerplants like the B-36 cannot be accurately modelled.

What I always understood was that MSFS only can do 4 engines. Engine number 5 and 6 on, for example, the AN225 are working but have the same controls as engine 1 an 3. So start up and shut down are at the same time. Contrails are only possible for 4 engines.

Crash ;)

Thanks guys........ not what I wanted to hear.  I want to add an APU to a four engine jet.

But is a APU considered an engine? I remember that on FS2000 I had several 747's where I had to start the apu before I could even begin to think of doing anything else. I had no problem then starting the 4 main power plants and shutting down the apu.

I wonder if I could load them in FS2004 and see if they would work?

I cant believe that they would change fs2004 so drastically that apu's couldnt be modeled.

An APU can be modeled .... but it is an external "program" to the sim itself.

Couldn't you configure the controls in your simpit to change the FSUIPC values "as if" an APU were present...whether modelled or not?

Steve,

Yup... that is what I will probably end up doing at some level.  Some will be "in sim" and some will be "external.... in the sense that the APU controls will be "real" in the simpit... and then the final "output" of a series of "real" control events will eventually activate some FSUIPC variable in the sim.

Simulating a normal jet engine APU startup with the N1 + N2 + EGT values and the delays until the Gen and Bleed Air will function corectly and all that stuff is complicated.  A FS2004 engine just "comes" with all that stuff modeled already.

I just wanted a tad more realism in the sim........ and a bit of an "easier go".  The pit is already a "labor of love" without adding more work to it.   ;)

best,
