FS9 - Lights out?

Postby Lewis_Bloom » Thu May 26, 2005 9:11 pm

hello,
my first post here and hopefully its in the right place,

i am attempting to change a seperate install of fs9 in a ww2 era simulator, in particular a place for me to fly lancaster's on night simulated night op's.

so far ive got a few lancasters and have created a few 100sqn skins for them. Ive got quite a few airfields thanks to ian elliot, cees and snuffy, with snuffy being kind enough to create an RAF Grimsby for me. Ive also got FS SKYWORLD with some nice dawm/dust sets.

However flying at night in fs9 whilst attempting these flights can be slighty annoying with all the lights on the ground. so my first question is this, would anyone happen to know which texture files to change to get rid of runway and general airport lights?

Next off would be know which files to change the generic night terrain so i could add a 'blackout'  over the textures.

cheers for any help and assistance,
lewis :)

Hi and welome to simviation.

Could you not just turn the autogen and other settings down to get rid of some lights? I wouldn't advise persoanlly messing around with computer files unless you really know what you are doing.

Hi L_B......can't say about all of your requests but if you look in the main textures folder which is in the root FS9 folder you will find a bmp file called halo.bmp.......open the file and you will see it has four "halos" of differing types. Just black them out and close.... click yes to save the changes. This will turn off the runway , taxiways and airport lights at night..........

...IMPORTANT.....FIRST make a backup copy of the halo.bmp for obvious reasons.............commoner
PS..It is just a normal bmp file so you shouldn't need anything fancy to open it.

aha,
cheers :)

i had aleady had a poke around and found the halo file but was unsure as theres a bunch of other files, including the skins for autogen buildings which it looks like i will have to black out one by one  :o should keep me busy i suppose though

cheers for now, no doubt i shall be back with further questions,...

This won't be of help with your airport lights, but will do for the scenery autogen stuff...

I changed RBG to black and then did the same for alpha chanel.
flatten layers and save as the halo.bmp (i use PS7 32bit.bmp)

I wish to use the auto gen as the world is somewhat sparse without it, i am just going to go through and edit the skins of the buildings.

nevertheless thanks for the information re the program looks interesting :)
