SO what did I do??

Postby Jared » Tue May 10, 2005 5:48 pm

SO about a week ago I get into the sim and I'm getting erxtremely great performance! 40-50FPS in the FSD piper Cheyenne with USA Roads on high, virtually all other settings are at maximum or just below..:)

Other than confused I'm quite the happy bunny now, I can fly all of my payware in any kind of weather and still get great performance..:)

Maybe I'll forgo "spring" cleaning and keep it the way it is! :)

Anybody have an idea of what has changed? I checked all of the graphics settings, anti-ailising, resolution, etc is all the same... :)

I'm not complaining, just trying to figure out what changed so I can fix i again if I have to format the hard drive for some forbidden reason.. ')

It could be any number of reasons. New drivers, defragging, less stuff running in the background...

I haven't added new drivers in a few months..  ::) saw that there were some out the other day and thought I might try them out, but that's when I noticed I was getting such good performance.

Defrag occurs same time every week, and running programs are same as always unless I had some unknown "virus" running in the background that finally got removed, though I don't think that's the case as I should've got a warning if it was a virus or something along those lines...

I guess you could say I added a program to my programs list as I'm in the process of creating a program for one of my classes, but that doesn't actually get installed to any specidic area and is not running at the same time...

Oh well, not going to worry about it much, just kind of goofy that's all.. ;)

Have you uninstalled any programs recently or removed them from the Start menu? After using it for many years I discovered only a week or so ago that the latest version of DAP is a resource hog, even when I'm offline. I don't remember this happening with earlier versions. After removing it from the Start menu my prehistoric PC is running like a new machine.

PS. This reminds me, I should uninstall it & remove the problem for good.

I would just face west (or what ever direction Redmond, Wa. is) offer a prayer and CREATE A RESTORE POINT. ;)

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

LOL! already been there done that! Wise advice though! :)

As for adding removing programs, I have not touched anything at all in the past month or so, basically been leaving anything I wanted to do go until after finals and I had all of my school files off of it...

Oh well, I'll just be happy with it for now!

OK, I think I know what has been helping me.. at least partly anyways as I could've sworn I've tried this before without much difference if any at all...

Today it was back down to the lower 20's which is still pretty good, but I wanted 40+ Like I was getting the other night....

So I'm investigating, and I notice that the only thing running basically is my anti-virus (Macafee). I start thinking and wondering what kind of resources, and I realize that I have it set to on access scanning, seems to me like it would be trying to scan the same FS files I was trying to use, probably slowing me down, disable on access scanning and got about 10FPS more today.. :)

Jared = one happy bunny!

::) Hmm, that didn't sound too much like dear ole Fozzer now did it?  ;D

IN fact I'm almost 100% sure that this played a HUGE role in the game.. ;) as I always disable the antivirus while doing a defrag which I last thursday night whilst my parents had people here and I couldn't be on the sim anyway! :)

Well I'm off to watch a thuderstorm roll in..:)

I usually leave my systems running 24/7. But... if I'm opening and closing FS2004 for various program tests, I steadily get less and less memory use. So I always reboot before flying.
