pitch problems with msfs

Postby bark9mad » Mon May 09, 2005 12:56 am

as anyone had any joy configuring a joystick to work effectively with msfs 2002/04 .

i would like to use the program to practice a bit of I.F. work however my aircraft bucks like a bronco definately
behaves no where near "as real as it gets" standard microsoft seems to crow about.... (thank god or real flying would be truly scary)

i have borrowed microsoft sidewinder force feedback and have used wingman force feedback =both utterly usless regardless of sensitivty settings.
:-/ ??? >:(

any help/ suggestions appreciated

Has your pitch trim in the sim (not on your joystick, though set that in neutral too) "wandered" to either full up or full down?
Put it in neutral or centered and see if that helps. If it is way out, then you will get huge osilations when you release the stick.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

As Matt says, proper trim is the key.

I've always felt that some of the a/c seem to be to sensative in

I also tried to adjust the sensitivity and could not notice any effect of these sliders... The baron is indeed a good example of difficult pitch control.  Some others plane can be also very sensitive on the rudder control

One important thing is to reconfigure the joystick (not the sliders in fs but using the control panel) from time to time.

I think anyway it depends on the aircrafts, I have some very friendly to handle and some others asking permanent fighting, should it be to keep them rolling on the taxiway...

I did not try yet tom modiffy the aircraft.cfg tunning but will have a try, I have here an a340 having the rudder so sensitive  than I can't even use the hat button to pan the view without getting the plane dancing like Travolta. whatever are the settings on the joystick.

Pegase,

On your last comment, have you tried setting a small 'null zone' on your joystick axis'.

This allows some movement of the joy before applying input.

I have never had much success w/o adjusting the aircraft.cfg individually.but when adjusted all is fine (fs2002)
open aircraft.cfg with notepad, scroll down to elevator_trim_effectiveness and REDUCE THE NUMBER ie 1 becomes .5,then   readjust to your taste if necessary,
You'll be glad you did.

spot on the money boys cheers !!!!!
i owe you one ,
this will save thousands $$ in the upcoming instrument renewal this week.

was just a case of reducing the elevator sensitivity and increasing pitch stability in the aircraft config file... - made for a much more stable instrument platform to work from .

again - big thanks for taking a bit of time out to help.. ;D

Yes Dave, first slightly without any effect, second full right... still without any result.

Then I reset this parameter to default and replayed the joystick calibration procedure and got a big improvement.

However, it changes a lot upon the aircraft (in my little RL experience limited on gliders and ultra light it is also true.

I will have a try on the A 340 aircraft CFG.

I could also experiment how big is the influence of the center of gravity. roughly : the  more it is forward, the best. in matter of stability. rearmost center of gravity is just good if you wish to keep flying in a courtyard.

Remind : you can adjust this center of gravity playing on fuel and payload.
