Hmm..interesting observation, Paul.  I never thought about the effect it would have by setting your "view distance" out so far.  Kills realism AND bogs you down.  I can't believe that never came to me.  lol  I'm gonna have to give it a shot now.  Thanks!

Hi Scott....!

I compare the Members screen shots of nice blue skies and soft fluffy clouds with what I actually see when I'm "up there" in my real Cessna 152.....
My real world is dull, overcast, misty, often raining and I am struggling to peer out through my windscreen to see where I'm going most of the time....
...thank goodness for my trusty compass... 8)... ;D...!

Cheers Scott....

Paul....ATC....where am I...?

Hi Skit...!

My water detail is set close to Minimium, 'cos I like blue water, rather than green water...LOL...!
...and...
My "sight" distance is set between 5 miles and 10 miles. Much more realistic in real life, and the processor isn't bogged down with having to render scenery 100 miles in the far distance.... ;)...!
It really is quite misty "up there" most if the time..You can rarely see your airstrip until you are within 5-8 miles of it... ::)...!
I set my own weather and cloud effects to suit the terrain...San Francisco Bay is always misty...distance=less than 5 miles...!
...so the maxed autogen and scenery is only visible in great detail when I am almost over the top of it...!
..and runs the set-up much more smoothly, in ALL views...!
Much more fun...!
LOL...!

Paul.....early morning mist on my goggles... ::)... ;D...LOL...!

Thanks for the info. You must be able to tell I'm just a sim flyer. I'll put your advice into affect.

Could someone please educate me on how to set sight distance that low?  I went into the appropriate settings tab, under weather and the lowest the slider goes is 60 nm.  How can I get it lower than that? Does that require an FS cfg editing??  Thanks

Hi Gary...!

Menu > World > Weather > Customise weather > Advanced weather  > Visibility > change the visibility distance here... ;)...!
Note: All your Weather options are in this section.
...don't go overboard on the settings... ;)... ;D...!

Cheers...!

Paul... 8)...!

P.S. When I woke up this morning, 1st May at 9:00 AM, and looked out of my bedroom window, the maximiun clear(ish) visibility was between one and two miles...!
So that's the weather setting I would use for todays flight.
Real-Life flying...  ;)... ;D...!

okay, I'll give her a shot.  yes, here in normally humid central PA 20-30 nm would be typical on the clearest day.  Glad I don't live in Arizona or somewhere dry and typically clear like that, I'd need to set it for 100 nm just to be real and that would test the 6600 for sure.

Well, my specs are below. I just switched from a Gforce Ti 4200 64mb to a new Gforce MX 4000 with 128mb. I switched because my old one started to have video memory failure.. I dont know what card is consided a better one, but this new one is pretty good. Just had to knock down the Mip Mapping down one notch
