Pitch control on aircraft

The pitch control on my aircraft is quite simple: 7 on the number pad = nose up, 5 on the number pad = nose down. But there is no instrument of guage to show the pitch setting - and I'm not certain if short taps on the number 7 or 5 key actually affect the pitch.  Continued pressure on the keys does change the pitch, but rather too quickly.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Which aircraft are you talking about?  I don't use many default MS panels but as I recall most of them have pitch control indicators.  It may be that you just don't recognize it when you see it.  It usually looks like a vertical thumbwheel.

Agree with the above, Lysander77. As far as I know all the default aeroplanes have a pitch setting indicator somewhere - on the default 737, for example, it's a thumbwheel, with graduations, marked 'PITCH TRIM', just to the right of the Rate of Climb gauge.

Beyond that, though, you should adjust trim by reference to what the aeroplane is doing, rather than by what any indicator shows -

Many thanks to all of you for the excellent suggestions! I especially appreciate the thought about changing the two top buttons on the joy stick so that they control the pitch.
The aircraft I am flying is a Westland Lansander, from Icarus, which is a splendid machine and simulation but does not appear to have a pitch wheel anywhere - or perhaps it's concealed behind the throttle mechanism.
