no engine sound

Postby ajadams » Thu Apr 14, 2005 1:50 pm

I downloaded a few planes today, and now I do not have any engine noise for any aircraft as I fly.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I may have messed up?  I'm hoping it's something simple before I resort to reloading the game.

Does anyone know where I can get an SR-71 for FS 2004?

As for the sound try and press the "q" key. Once I did install a plane too (an autoinstalling one, no wonder I hate them now) and it somehow silenced the sim. I went nuts to understand what had happened until I saw in the menu the sound option unflagged. :-/

There's around a SR71 for FS2002 that works fine in FS9, I know this because I have it and never had a problem.

After that, check the sound settings, and make sure they haven't been moved.  If not that, try rebuilding the FS9 cfg file by deleting it and starting FS up.  It'll build a new one automatically.  You lose your old settings, but if this isn't the problem, you can just replace the old .cfg file and you'll be good.

I tried the "Q" key and the sound adjustments.
What file am I looking for FS9.cfg?
I just delete it and FS9 will make a new one when I boot up?

Might this fix my problem with no ATC sounds?

Also, where is the fs9.cfg file? I cant find it anywhere?

Cheers

...look here.   For O.S. Windows XP then the path is like this......C/Documents and Settings/Owner/Application Data/Microsoft/FS9      have "show file extensions" checked as one of your preferences........commoner ;)

...you could look at the Sound  section of the fs9.cfg file ...........it will look something like this....

[SOUND]
SOUND=1
SOUND_FADER1=0.500000
SOUND_FADER2=0.100000
SOUND_FADER3=0.300000
SOUND_FADER4=0.800000
SOUND_FADER5=0.500000
SOUND_FADER6=0.800000
SOUND_QUALITY=2

...If it says SOUND=0 then change it to SOUND=1 and save the changes..........but still check Q and your volume sliders....commoner

Some sound files only work on certain engine types Eg: //0=Piston, 1=Jet, 2=None, 3=Helo-Turbine, 4=Rocket, 5=Turboprop
If the sound file came from a jet you have to make the engine 1 or the sound won't work. I have had similar problems with helicoipters and that was the only way to fix the problem. Go into the aircraft.cfg to find the engine type and change it to suit.
