Needing some help?

Postby a12 » Sat Apr 09, 2005 9:46 am

Hello to all: I have downloaded many, many aircraft to FS9. When I turned on my computer today and tried to start FS9 I could not and yes I had disk #4 in. Just a heads up I do not know much about the workings of computers so if you can help me with simple instructions I would be grateful. Thanking you in advance. Chaplain

Wouldn't start is pretty vague...it just wouldn't boot?  The CD wouldn't spin?  Did it crash?

Try finding the no-cd patch and see if the problem persists.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

Try deleting your saves-just like saltine crackers.  Works every (ok, most of the) time. Saves should be in-ahh, I forget.  Could someone remind me what the path is? (it's different from 2k2s, which I knew)

If that doesn't work you can try going to your cd, in windows explorer and clicking on it....runs the executable a little differntly... ;)

Check your CD for dirt/damage; likewise your CD drive. And once you're running FS9 again, you might want to get the "No CD" patch, so you won't have to worry about the CD anymore. It's easy to find and install.
Of course, if it's a different problem, some of the aforementioned fixes might help.
But you say you've downloaded "many, many aircraft"- it could be that one of those files (usually a model made for an older version of FS) is crashing the sim. Try yanking all of your add-ons out of the FS9 Aircraft folder, then reinstall them again one by one until you find the guilty party. Or check for all 2002 or older planes first... good luck.

Another thing you might want to try of the above doesn't work. It's been known to cause just the symptoms you mention. Look up your Fs9.cfg file. There's a post telling how to find that in the FS 2004 FAQ's sticky at the top of the forum. Move that file out of it's folder or rename it and start the sim. FS 2004 will build a new Fs9.cfg file and you will have to redo all your settings but it just might fix your problem.

try checking how much free space you have on your hard drive. If you dont have much space i.e. less than 10% of your total hard drive space you should probably try uninstalling some things
My PC specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3200 (@ 2.2ghz)

1.5gb pc3200 RAM
