Well, lets see. I can't think of a single plane I ever downloaded that I did not research and then improve in some way to the purpose of making it closer to the real world version. Most freeware sim planes are designed by people with an emphasis on "sim" or "game". Therefor, panel layouts will reflect that, avionics will reflect that and so on. Good example is that I can think of a number of advanced realistic avionics gauges available but yet many panel makers simply choose default bendix king. Rudder and elevator trim controls are typically panel mounted for conveninece to use but realistically they are not actually on the main panel in realworld planes. In short, lots of compromises are used.
