Very strange, the differing experiences/opinions on the Mac-PC thing. I have one of each, PC for FS stuff, mac for everything else which I do ( a PC would be a must for most business apps as everyone uses 'em).. Never been one of these rabid Mac haters, PC haters.....but I wonder about all the differing experiences. My Macs have always been far more stable machines and OSX has actually never crashed or had any sort of problem ...a computing first for me as I've never had any computer, PC or Mac, which has been flawless. Windows, with it's appealing array of flight sim software, has always had a firm place in my computing but has in truth been far more problematic.
XP has been my worst mightmare for the PC (despite all the news that it's the most stable, 3 different PC's with XP Home have all been troublesome for me, unfortunately, in a few different ways, not just stability...here's a wierd one: I can't use XP's cd/dvd burning software; I must use 3rd party software...XP literally scrambles the text in any word processing file! .doc, .txt, .rtf....doesn't matter what format) and finally I somehow got it to behave a little better...or more accurately, live with and work around it's quirks. FS9 still crashes alot and has many areas where I simply can not fly, which is very upsetting. But I have to put up with this crap if I want use the simulator at all. I love the AI traffic, there's great scenery available....I could go on and on about it. I just love the MS flight sims, combat and civilian (although for some reason I've been more interested in the civilian arena for the past year or so).
There's X-Plane for the Mac but I don't like it. An empty dead world w/o AI traffic...the planes don't look as nice...scenery not as nice...just how I feel, not condeming it. I've meet rabid MS FSx haters as well who simply revile anything and everything by MS. To each, his own.
Could it just be variablilty among various machines? I'm sure the Mac haters will not believe the stability of my Mac; I'm sure PC haters will doubt anyone's tales of a stable Windows machine. Could it be office computers that are just over-used and used by many who know very little about what they're doing; school computers which are abused and used by people unfamiliar with Macs? Ive actually been told by people that Macs are so bad they can't even be turned on! They actually don't how to turn them on! Beyond belief, but if someone just wants to be against a Mac or a PC, it's assured that the Mac or PC doesn't have a chance with that person...and I have found no limit to the lengths people will go to support a claim ( no matter what the subject is, actually).
But I just can't buy these opinions which seem to render each system (which ever one happens to be hated) as useless, primitive, etc. I use 'em both everyday. Personally, the PC is more work but neither system is anywhere near as bad as I have been told.
