I would like SOOO MUCH this ATP certificate...

Postby Pegase » Sun Apr 03, 2005 8:41 am

And just last time, when landing nicely at paine, I was sure I did it well  8). But...

This awfull bit hmm...  I mean dear Lady sent me this bunch of critics:
  • Did not maintain 145 Kts Vref at  the mark
  • Did not put the gear down  :-/
  • Did not set the auto break on 3

Something wrong with the speed but what exactly ?
I finish the approach at 155-160, then due to loss off speed during roll out, the touch down occured at 136 (checked with post flight analysis)
Should I make the approach at 165-170 to touch down around 145 ?

The gears where down anf flaps at 30

I think your taking FS too seriously ::)

I personally can't complete any of those things without exerting alot of effort.....I don't listen very well :P

But if your looking for a fix for FS9, try the Shotgun and Sledge hammer one...works great ;D

I have also tried using the FS lessons, and like many other people, have found it nearly impossible. I passed my real-life Private Pilot checkride, but could not do so in FS9, because of the sort of errors you mention. The examiner seemed to be insane! Yes, sometimes it seems like a timing issue, but I have seen some really crazy errors in logic. And as far as timing goes, the timing of the instructors' commands are way off most of the time.
You're better off going through the lesson to see what exercises and standards are required, then practicing and being your own critic, if you want to learn, as opposed to just getting the silly certificate.

You have to remember these things about MSFS9 and that is the checkouts only work with the default aircraft. In this case the B737. That means no changes to the .cfg files or panels. Also you cannot update the Airport scenery files to show the more accurate ILS and geographical positioning that some of our members have so graciously contributed. Now having said that, after failing your checkride, take a moment to review your flight, expanding the view and you will be able to see exactly where you made your mistakes. You have done the right thing in making a self examination. The other thing to remember is that this examination of your skills also depends on the interaction between your eyes and the monitor. In other words, if your system is prone to the occasional stutter due to mishandling of background programming, poor graphics card or slow cpu, then you are doomed to fail.

I tried the PP checkride with the stock C172, and found it maddening, See my earlier thread for details:

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 7;start=10
I really don't think it has anything to do with my install of FS9 or my settings... I think the lessons are just buggy.
I have yet to see anyone post that they were able to pass any of these check rides...

What do you mean...autobreaks 2 and 3 are the two most common used of the autobreaks?

Thanks to all, I ideed thought about giving up but... No wat, too challenging.

And finally got it  ;)

It was OK to encrease the airspeed a bit above 160 kts for approach to keep an higher airspeed at touch down.

I can now leave the 737 for a while and play quietly with this old beauty 8)

The check rides are a pain, but keep trying, I passed the ATP ride after six tries.  Several times I flew the whole flight and on touchdown she told me I forgot the gear, even though the gear was down.  The time I finally passed I thought I screwed up several times but no mention was made of it.  To be honest it is just a crap shoot, if you keep trying you will pass, but once you have it, you will realize that it wasnt worth the frustration in the first place.  Todd
