How do I make addon-ons into AI aircraft?

Postby A/SGT.Mav316 » Fri Mar 25, 2005 9:30 pm

As we all probably agree the default AI aircraft look pretty much ugly. I was wondering if there was a way to take the textures of addon aircraft and convert them in a way to make them AI aircraft. Possible to replace the default ones.

Are there any tutorials on this subject or can someone help me figure this one out?

To make add-on ac fly as AI is just a matter of creating AI flightplans using Traffic Tools, available here: http://www.simviation.com/fs2004utilities1.htm

It has a good 'how to' file, and although the process can be time consuming, its not difficult.

Most any ac can be used as AI, although some older 2002 models have problems.

Cheers,
Dave

Cont: There are also downloads that supply the ac and flightplans to augment or replace the default ones.  The most popular (freeware) I'd guess is Project AI...http://www.projectai.com/.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Don't get out too much then Mav eh?  ;)

The AFCAD and TTools forum is all about this very thing and has been here about 2 years now  ;D

Why don't you nip over there (no permit needed  ;) ) and start wallowing in this stuff.

Surprised it took you so long - everyone else knows it's the custom AI that makes the sim so good

Thanks for the info Roller Ball. As the GIJOE theme goes "Now I know and knowing is half the battle".

Never realized there was a forum here for that. I spent most my time downloading aircrafts and panels and scenery. Then the rest of the time editing cfg files, quirking around aircrafts cfg to improve their flight characteristics.

Its only now after having done all that..that I actually started taking notice that I have some ugly AI aircrafts that could use some improvement on!

;D

Just be carefull how many and what aircraft you use for AI or you might be watching a slide show. It's best to use aircraft that are designed for AI as your AI unless you just intend to add a couple here and there. The density of detailed flyable aircraft will affect your sim's performance.

[quote]altering AI Aircraft in FS9 is a new frontier and uncharted waters for me! I look forward to taking a hack at that!

Wow this stuff sounds really deep? ;D I am going to start by going to the website you indicated and download AI airlines like you mentioned. But all that other stuff I would like to sit down and email you 1 on 1 to figure out. I never really got into using the Radio Stack controls in my simulation (I really haven't been around the block  :-[).

But I would like to go through it step by step with you via email messages.

Your AI flightplan calculator creates flight plans for the AI aircraft to follow, does that work in co with any AI aircraft.
