Flight Plans/Airways

Postby supernova45849850l » Sat Mar 19, 2005 5:04 pm

Hi All

My first question is how do I set up a flight plan (with waypoints) using only the GPS? I know you can go direct to any VOR, or airport, but how can you set up a route to an airport via waypoints that you select.

Second question Is what is the difference between Jet Airways and Victor airways And why dont these Airways continue right accross the atlantic?? (on FS they dont, Might do in real life tho?)

Okay, this is easy. Go to "Flight Planner", then select your start and arrival airports, then select "GPS Direct", then "Find Route". Now you'll see a map w/ a red line from A to B. You can now drag that line to any waypoint in the FS database (airports, VORs, VOR intersections, NDBs, etc). Save the plan, then start your flight. When you open the GPS window and hit "route", you'll see the whole thing already programmed into the GPS. You'll also find a nice navlog in the Kneeboard window.

J-ways are for IFR and Victor (as in VFR) are for VFR navigation. If flying below FL180 use Low Altitude airways in the FS9 flightplanner and if flying at or above FS180 use High Altitude Airways. FS9 flightplanner will so the rest.

Bill
P.S. Block airspace starts at 12000' so anything above that is IFR (in N.A.) to be legal.

Actually, the victor airways are primarily an IFR system, but are obviously available for VFR flying aswell :)
Often referred to as the low altitude airway system

Because they don't in real life.  Look closely at their arrangement, and you will see funnel points, but no airways actually going across the Atlantic..  Over the pacific there are HAAWs, though.
