Global Terrain Mesh Scenery

Postby jb2_86_uk » Thu Mar 17, 2005 8:03 pm

Hey guys, I have just discovered the 70m global terrain mesh scenery on the simviation site. After being thouroughly thrilled by the areas used over the Uk, I am very tempted to get them all for Europe & the US, my main airplane play ground!. Would you recomend this? is it quite a thirsty option on graphics etc? PS I know that together they'll probably come to 2-3Gig! Im prepared for that! lol

Any help and advice is appreciated!

John

EDIT: I Forgot to mention that the stuff for the UK is amazing, I flew around sheffield and was stunned to how real the landscape looked!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I agree with commoner, this mesh has not impacted my FPS at all.  I have put the four UK sections on this morning and I'm still getting a solid 19.9 in most situations.  Excellent value as well ;)

Yeah, I too agree that FREE is wicked value! Yeah commoner I have got the sheffield city airport scenery, thats cool too, i like the hangers! I live about 10 miles away near maltby. Though i use Manchester EGCC as my base as I mainly fly heavies, which tend not to like leaving the tarmac at sheffield quick enough! Can't wait for Donaster Sheffield Robin Hood (or whatever its called these days) to open, that will be good with the longest airport in europe!

Just a thought with this mesh.  Does anyone know if it will work in CFS2?  The blurb at the top states that it works with FS2000 which is the same basic engine.

...best way to findout Will is to try it out..you have the mesh downloads ...just install one of them in CFS...commoner  ;)

PS ..Let us know the result eh?

BTW jb2...didn't they do a trial land and take off with a 747 from Sheffield?...I seem to remember something about it.

Heya Will F,

If you still need an answer as to whether the 70m Global Terrain Mesh Scenery available here on the SimV site will work in CFS 2 -- yes it will.  All you have to do is some modification to the CFS 2 Scenery.cfg file and it works just fine.

I'm adding that mesh a little at a time, and like it a lot. Need at least 50% settings to appreciate it, but it's hardly a fps-killer. What a bargain!!!
To appreciate the difference, install one section, then go on a flight where youcross over the line between the new and old mesh...
