Help With ATC

Postby mikec » Wed Mar 09, 2005 8:24 pm

I have been flying with FS9 for awhile now without using  ATC, but I've become interested in using it at times. What I would like to know is how or can you you choose the runway that you would like to depart on from start-up at the terminal gate and how to choose the runway that you would like to land on. Reguardless of what I do, ATC always wants me to depart and land on Runway 33 and I like Runway 24 better because it's 2000 feet longer. I've tried everything I know to change this but ATC won't go along with my wishes . Should I be able to change this and if so could someone out there be so kind as to explain  to me the process. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

ATC chooses the runway that best suits the current weather and conditions. now if there are multiple runways in the same direction (ie: 24 R & 24L) then you can choose between the 2.

same goes for landing.

if you prefer to choose your own runway. don't talk to ATC. until you've taken off. don't even talk to ground, because they will lead you to the active runway.

There should be an option on the menu where you can ask for a different ACTIVE runway.  Like Ramos said, active runways are picked based on the winds.  If both 24 and 33 are active, then super.  When told to taxi to one, ask of you can get the other.  If not, then live with it.

I am complete newby in ATC too. I did not find anything which allows to choose a given departure runway.

For landing, I do that way
I create an IFR flight plan used for the whole flight (probably a flight plan created from the ATC menu would work as well)

When reaching the destination, the ATC assign you a path for the approach,. Then in the ATC menu, you can select an other runway or other approach.. From there you can select any runway of the destination airport.

...mmm...not totally sure why you would want to have a different runway to take off and land to the ones assigned to you by ATC...after all, they are in charge of a number of aircraft and if they get just one awkward c**s then it throws the whole thing out........as drum says...if you want to please yourself and use another runway (just cos you like the shade of tarmac better or it's a tad longer) then just don't bother with ATC......after all it's YOUR sim.......just occasionally ATC does allow you to choose a different number, but not too often.......commoner ;)

Is it not possible to choose user defined weather, then customise weather. Then choose a wind direction that would force atc to give you your preferred runway?

...mmm...not totally sure why you would want to have a different runway to take off and land to the ones assigned to you by ATC...

Here's an example-at Sydney, YSSY, either 34L,R or 16L,R are the actives.  34R/16L is 8011' long and 34L/16R is 13022' long.

When I have a fully loaded 747, bound for LAX, which runway am I going to want?  An 8,000 ft one or a 13,000 ft one?  Whenever ATC assigns me 34R/16L for takeoff I always request 34L/16R because it is much longer.

That's how you could use it ;)

Air Traffic Control selects runways in use at the tower so if you want to use a diffrent runway you might need to adjust the weather if it doesn't just taxi to your runway then ask for VFR takeoff cleareance but you will need to know the towers frequency .
