Blurred Textures

Postby sir_knight57 » Wed Mar 09, 2005 10:20 pm

I don't understand why my FS default textures of all installed aircraft are fuzzy; logos unclear or just down right ugly to look at from the SPOTTER plane view or even the opening selection screen.  It appears as though they are smeared on.  My downloaded repaints from this website are beautiful . . . well almost all of them are beautiful.

The downloads for the Boeing planes are the same as the default installed aircraft; smeared on appearance.  What settings do I have wrong?  I changed my display from various settings and all still give the same appearance; smeared . . . but not the repaints.

I tweak my system constantly for maximum performance so everything is up-to-date and ready to soar; all I need is some logical advice and off I go, thanks to all who reply.  :)

It's the mip level, you can download de-mipped textures for the default aircraft here, usually on the first or second pages of the FS2004 download sections. The other way to cure it is to get a top of the line PC and turn all of the settings up all of the way!

You can also get DXTBmp and open the textures in it then deselect the "Include Mips" option and resave the file. That'll remove the mips.

On the hardware tab in the game set 'Mip Mapping' to 4.  Set the 'Global Tecture' one to massive.

Also set aircraft detail to high.

If this doesnt cure the problem it may be because of your graphics card and then you will need to do as mentioned above.  I would suggest just downloading the textures form this site that have already had the mips removed myself.

I also have a problem with the whole screen blurred somewhat if I set my card's hardware setting to anything except "application-controlled" then FS9 loads up blurry instead of crisp. When it's all "app-controlled" FS9 loads up fine and crisp. Then I would alt-tab outside of FS9 and set the hardware settings of Antialise and anisotropic to on, and tab back and the settings would take place and FS9 is still crisp and fine with the improvements. But..if any reload of FS9 or major change in display settings in FS9 the screen flickers and bit and reverts back to that blurry overlay.
Any thoughts on that?

Is it always blurred or just becomes blurry in certain areas?

Some scenery can cause this problem...

I don't know how to put a screenshot on my post.  Sliding global texture to MASSIVE was the answer to solve the problem tho, thanks.
