Afterburners

I may just be incompatent, but for the life of me I can't get the afterburners on the aircraft to fire up. I've downloaded tons of fighters that I know have afterburner effects.

Is there a special trick?

Some of the afterburners are binded to the lights, and on others, you must press 'Shift+F4'

I've tried the "Shift=F4" but I havn't tried the lights.
