Help with vatsim please!

I have a few questions invloving vatsim.

1. Basicially... what is vatsim?
2. i tried to register but i dont have a pay-for email adress, i use gmail, is there any otherway to register?  
3. is there atc (if they have servers?) and is it text, ts, or some new one.
4. what are the benifits of joining with them?

Vatsim is a virtuall airline.
it's not so great.
you need to have a email witch you payfor
e.g freeserve outlook etc
and i tried it but ever time i tried to log in it said error so i gave up

Umm... no.  VATSIM is multiplayer FS9, with real-live people playing the roles of ATC and pilots! It's all for free, but requires some equipment to get you started.

Try the multiplayer forums, lots of VATSIM nuts with some great links over there.
