This may be a mute point, but is the BIOS set for PCI graphics?  I think it defaults to AGP and this might cause problems for you.  Not sure, but just trying to help.

One thing which is still unclear to me is wich card do you have,Ben?Is it PCI or PCI Express?I dont believe that it's regular PCI,because the PCI inteface is so obslete, that GF FX just cant be PCI...
So apparently it's PCI Express...
In that case there shouldnt be any problem with it...
And in that case the MB has no AGP slot...

The BIOS setting are set to PCI and I can not see any other relevent settings. I've taken out the 1gb Ram and put in a 256mb ddr thinking that this might slow down the pc enough to stop the bottle neck, but this made no difference at all. Only by turning down the acceleration setting in the pc system makes any difference, then fs9 works very poorly.
What next I wonder. Thanks again for all your help.

These may be a long shots, but give them a look. As I have previously mentioned i have a geforce5200le 256k pci card in my set. It runs fine. Not agp or express quality, but i can pretty well max out all the sliders and still get 20-30fps. I have 768ram and p4 2.8 processor. Did you try going into the video card adjustments..ie. image setting where you can choose 1)performance 2) performance and quality 3) quality

I would suggest you go to www.nvidia.com download and install the latest drivers winxp_2k_66.93 then go to microsoft and get the latest version of directx install them as well reboot then go from there. Was Windows XP preinstalled or did you install it yourself?

Thanks all, but we've covered almost every single possible cause - the ones mentioned by FSPilot were among the first to be tried. I think I need a new card basically. :-X :(

So I'm looking into it,
Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 2GHz
GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2) DDR2 6400C4 800Mhz

Have you installed the latest motherboard drivers including the agp driver?

Yes, I have done everything that can be done. It's been decided I need an AGP instead of a PCI card.

What about taking it back to where you got it. It maybe faulty, get them to test it you may get it replaced under warranty.

Haven't read the whole post but have you tried taking everything to bits and starting again with a complete reformat etc? Something just could have gone wrong along the way. If you start off with the new drivers instead of the driver CD's you might resolve the problem if it had anything to  do with a dud driver.

Sounds like a complete reformat should be the first port of call.

Well it was working on the computer I took it out of. We'll have to try it back again for a double check (just incase it went bust in the transaction) but it was working fine with FS9 on another computer  and when I took out FS9 and the card and put them on the new computer it just won't have it. It is a really up-to-date computer and it just may be that it won't accept a PCI card. :(

Have you tried moving it into another PCI slot? sometimes that can make a big difference. Get an eraser and rub it along the contacts both sides a few times and give them a clean that can help too. make sure you get rid of the dust and loose particals of rubber before refitting it though. Don't use your fingers as it can leave an oily film. if that doesn't work Also check system properties if there are any yellow explanation marks if so create a restore point, delete the offending sections do a refresh and windows should reinstall the effected files.
Hope it all works out for you, Allen

Hi, a trick I was taught when building computers was: only loosely fit the mother board leaving the screws slack, fit the graphics card properly to the case, then tighten the mother board screws as the graphics card is the most picky. This way makes sure the card is in the mother board properly, this might not work for you but it's worth a try. Good luck, Chris
