pitch trim in fs2004, help!

Hi everyone.  I have just got fs2004, fantastic!  I also have got 3rd party VFR photographic scenery, based on actual aerial photos of the uk.  I can fly over the village I live in and see my house!!  Anyway, I am having a problem someone may have an answer to.  Often when I load a flight, and before I move any control, the pitch trim moves itself to full up, and then freezes, so I have to conduct the whole flight holding an offset on the joystick.  Any ideas?

Did you calibrate your joystick?

It's either the stick needing calibration or the autopilot needing to be turned off.

Yes, I have callibrated several times.  today for example, had a flight, no problems.  Started exactly the same flight again, and the problem occoured.  Most annoying, it comes and goes!

What stick are you using Flyer?  I have a saitek that allows me to use the rotary controls for trim but if they are slightly "off centre" they keep applying more trim until i'm in a similar situation.

When you started again, was that after having exited the sim.
I've found that a joystick will need calibrating everytime you start FS.

2 answers here, just tried flying a mooney, with autopilot off, as soon as the simulation starts, the pitch trim moves, this was after restarting fs and callibrating joystick.  As to which joystick, this could be a problem.  I fly RC models (hence the handle) and am using an rc transmitter through an interface into a usb port.  That said, it works ok on the callibration screen.  Do you think i need to buy a 'real' joystick?

Since you regularly fly RC models this probably isn't the cause but just in case, have you checked the trim on the transmitter? If this is off then it may reflect it in the sim.

You may want to pick up a cheap joystick and hook that up to see if it's something in the transmitter or the sim that is messing up. The first step in trouble shooting is to isolate the problem. Is it the transmitter, the interface or the sim software.


Also is the interface a commercial product or a home built? If it's the transmitter or interface and that is a commercial product then you might check with the manufacturer. They may know of the problem and have a fix for it.

If the transmitter interface is a home built unit then you might want to look around for a forum that specializes in flying Fs9 with RC equipment. Possibly an RC flying club that uses Fs9 to practice. They would have a lot more knowledge of how to deal with an issue caused by the interface.

Well RC I'm with ya I fly R/C and real aviation and looking at the transmitters we use, mine anyways, and a real airplane as shown in Flight Sim, FS may just not read the transmitter correctly. FS doesn't expect to use an R/C transmitter and probably isn't exactly 100% sure what to do with it. If you have an advanced transmitter (for my computer R/C sim I use my Futaba 6XASU I believe), especially one with a computer in it, your computer is probably fighting it. And if you are using a transmitter than came with a computer flight sim, like the RealFlight G2 one, there is no way it's designed to run with FS. I would say get a real joystick, much more enjoyment that way and you can probably hook up the joystick and transmitter at the same time without problems.

Go to settings, assignments and check and see if
the elevator trim is assigned to an axis if so, delete
the assignment!!

microsoft have solved the problem.  If anyone else suffers from it, go into the fs9 folder and delete a file called devices.cfg
