Maybe you should try using the smoke effect on another plane(Default), say the Extra 300 and see if that crashes if so then you've got a prob with the default smoke effect. Or just try copying the smoke effect from a plane is FS that the effect works on (I don't know how to do that but I'm sure someone else does)
Best of luck and I hope you sort it all out!

Hmm..... ???

Just tried to install that package on my laptop just to see what's going on.  I installed everything where it should go, don't see any installation instructions with the download.  Booted it up and yea, something is messed up.  Acts just as you describe it.  No smoke and eventually crashes FS9.  Funny thing is that I have this package installed on my main computer and it works great, effects and everything.  I'll have to wait till I get home on Sunday to compare the file on my desktop to this one I just loaded onto the laptop.

I remember having a little trouble getting it installed on my desktop but I got it eventually and everything is fine now.

If you can wait a couple more days I should have a chance to compare the two.

Sounds like there may be a problem with the smoke effect it is using it might be bad, if you look in the aircraft cfg file you should find a section on smoke and it should have the file name it needs try using the other default smoke file and see what happens. Or check the parameters used one could be wrong and it is trying to display smoke off the screen which may be why it takes a little time before it crashes 8)

No nothing to do with the smoke effect. You need to do two things

1. If you don't have an OldModules section in your fs9.cfg you should have. You need to put Gaugesound.dll in there. Here's mine

[OLDMODULES]
fsflightmax.dll=1
fssound.dll=1
ADF2MOD.DLL=1
HostSB.dll=1
SOARRec.dll=1
FSNav.dll=1
Gaugesound.dll=1

2. This is the source of the problem I think. You must put the WHOLE sound folder called ct114 complete with the 2 sound files it contains into the main FS2004 Sound folder.

Then no problems. It's a lovely package. Works really well for me. Haven't heard em check in yet though.... ;)

Hi Everyone,

The CTD's are my fault as I forgot to put installation docs into the zip.

Actually, the Simviation files should have them as I had one complaint a well back about the file downloaded from here.  I originally only uploaded to 3 sites and someone else uploaded my zip file here after modifying the file folder layout.  This caused some problems trying to help this person out until I downloaded from here and told him about the problem.  We did fix it.

I contacted Simviation about the file and they removed it.  After that I uploaded a new file with installation docs.  So if you still are having problems here is the folder layout required:

\Flight Simulator 9\Guagesound.dll
\Flight Simulator 9\Sound\ct114\*.wav
\Flight Simulator 9\Gauges\ct114.cab
\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\Snowbirds_Docs
\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\Snowbirds_LT
\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\Snowbirds_RT

If Gaugesound.dll is not in the "main" folder, FS9 will CTD.  If ct114\*.wav isn't under the "main\Sound" folder, FS9 will CTD.

I just downloaded the Snwbrd04.zip from here and there is a "ReadMe_Install.txt" within the zipped file which explains all this as well.  If you are missing this file, then you have the wrong version of the Snwbrd04.zip file.

Sorry to have caused people so much problems.  Also, my e-mail address can be found within the Snowbirds_Docs folder, I would have tried to help any problems that you may have had.  I usually don't get to the forums too often.

I hope this works and you enjoy the Tutor.  It is a lot of fun to fly around in.

SimV has the latest version without the rudder fix.  I uploaded the rudder fix to SOH site to test out before releasing to everyone.  The rudder now has more authority in-flight and has been tested out by ex-RCAF Tutor instructors.

You can download from SimOuthouse or wait till this weekend when I get a chance to upload here.  The file also includes our paintkits.  Filename = Tutor04-UpdtAIR.zip

Also, some people have been playing around with AI Tutors.  One person has been able to increase their frame rates with a little tweaking.  Hopefully will have it this weekend as well if people are interested.
