ok, I have a Msft sidewinder precision 2, here's my layout

Image

1(fire) brakes
2(below hat) Gear
3(left of hat) flaps retract
4(right of hat) flaps extract
5(closest to stick) open doors
6(above 5) cycle views forward
7(left of 6) cycle views backward
8(below 7) engine cutoff

this is my setup, yours can be as different as you want

but use your 3 buttons on the stick itself for gear and flaps, it's a BIG help

Just wanting to get some input from you veterans  the best place to assign buttons. Based on how often you use them and so on. the trigger is button 1, the left side thumb are 2 and 3, the right side are 4 and 5 and the two at the bottem are 6 and 7. Any ideas The center circle is a hat switch.

now, from what I learned, use:

2 or 3 for gear
4 flaps retract
5 flaps extract

2 or 3, 6, & 7 are utility buttons, use at your discretion
