Lost Radio Stack

Happy New Year to my fellow pilots.

Well it's happened but I don't know why. When I click on my little icon on my panel I get nothing - no radio stack etc. I believe it happens only for the default aircraft. Drop down menu for view 'instruments/radio' brings the stack up into the panel but I have to close it by right click to close window.  ::)

Anyone help me sort this out please?

Sorry to hear that. It's inconceivable ALL your panel.cfg files are corrupted at the same time. Perhaps it's a mouse-driver problem . . .
anyway, here's the panel.cfg that makes it work:

thanks. I meant to reply to you sooner but time is not on my side at the present. It does seem inconceivable I agree. The mouse works perfectly well with everything else in the panel. I'll have a look at the panel cfg again just to make sure I haven't inadvertently altered any of the data previously.

Look in your FS9\Gauges folder for a file named SimIcons.cab. If it's not there you found the problem. You can retrieve it from one of the CAB files on CD-1.

PS. Don't extract SimIcons.cab itself. Paste it into FS9/Gauges as it is.

I'm having problems aswell, every time I click the Radio/Stack icon on the default aircraft the main panle goes absolutely massive and cant get it back to normal and cant see the radio stack
Any Suggestions?

yep I got the simicon cab file AND simico 1 cab files. I just can't understand why in some aircraft the avionics icon will not bring up the radio stack. It will for some other aircraft but in these panels it is not the 'standard' stack!  I suppose in my own clumsy way I'm suggesting that I've lost the 'standard' radio stack which appears in most of the default aircraft. Do you think I should re-install the CAB file from the MS disc? But what is the 'simico 1 CAB' file?

Hi Brian. I think this proves it's not the icon but the gauge used on the pop-up radio stack window. Do you know how to take & post a screenshot? It helps a lot if f I can see what we're talking about. Alternatively tell me which default aircraft have the problem. I don't use FS9 much these days & I will have to check it out.

It's possible one or more of your gauges is missing. You might have deleted the gauge OR overwritten it with another one when installing a new aircraft or panel. This was a common cause of problems in FS2002 but I've not come across it in FS9. If we know which gauge is causing the problem, retrieving it from the CD should fix it.

Is there a tutorial somewhere that you know of which will educate me on how to include an image. I have one of the 'grab' programmes and have a pic of the panel and stack window which is in MS paint.

One example I can give where the icon will not bring up the radio stack, unless I bring it in from the view/instruments dropdown menu is the Mooney. The C208 Caravan Amphibion is another.

This might not be necessary. Let me check out the panels you mentioned. I can then tell you which gauge to look for.

Right. If the radio stack works from the menu option there's nothing wrong with that. The problem is with selecting it with the mouse buttons. This all comes back to what I said before. The panels on both examples use the mousable buttons from SimIcons.cab. Providing you haven't modified the panels in these aircraft it has to be the cause of your problem. If you definitely have this gauge the file might be corrupt or you've overwitten it with a different one when installing a new aircraft. Try extracting the original from one of the CAB fies on CD-1 & replace it.

I never use those buttons myself. Try the key commands instead. Shift + 2 usually toggles the radio stack window. Shift + 3 the GPS & so on. The numbers on the main keyboard itself, not the Num Pad keys. If those menu options work so should the key commands.

many thanks for all your information. You've got me thinking now in the right direction. I've so many aircraft in my hangar and I'm going to have to check whether I have modified the Mooney panel and the others. I suspect over time I have done just that. I guess that complicates things if they have been modified? That having been said my current Mooney panel still bring up the 'bog standard' radio stack.
I'm going to have a delve into the tutorial. It's always good to broaden what little knowledge I have about these matters.

Just to clarify this Brian. The buttons on the main panel are simply switches that toggle the various pop-up windows on the 2D panel. They work in the same way as the apppropriate menu bar or keyboard options. The buttons (clickable icons) don't define what is on the pop-up windows themselves. The windows will vary depending on the panel. For example: the IFR version of the default Mooney incorporates the standard radio stack on the main panel. Clicking on the "Radio" button will bring up the Annunciator window.
