I can't guarantee this will work but it fixes all sorts of problems with FS9. It won't do any harm to try it. Find fs9.cfg & delete it. Then fire up FS9. Please tell me if that fixed it.

Ah well, back to the drawing board. As I said, it was worth a try.

I had this happen about a week ago....Here is what I did to fix it.

First back up the Microsoft Games folder, rename it Microsoft Games.bak, or something like that.
Reinstall FS, it will make a new Microsoft Games folder in your Program files, Then back up all the folders from the fresh install, and start moving them over from the backed up folder, and try to run it each time you move over a new folder, and if it runs fine then delete the backed up folder in the fresh install, and hopefully you will run across where the culprit is, mine turned out to be in the texture folder........It's a long process, and I might not have explained it very well, but it worked for me, I have my FS up and running again...Good Luck  ;D

Yep, forgot to mention that, but the only thing I have installed as far as Microsoft Games is the FS2004, but if you had others installed you are right you would need to back up the FS9 folder  ;D

P.S i opened up fs9.cng in notwpad to see waht it does and it controls everything in the game from witch spashscreen come up to where ai tyhrafic flies so surely if you delete this (i kept a back up) you will totally stuff up fs and it wont do anything atall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. If you delete fs9.cfg a new one will be written the next time you fire up FS9. This has been found to fix all sorts of problems with FS9. If you're nervous about deleting it, rename the file to back it up instead. Then rename it back to fs9.cfg if anything goes wrong. I assure you it's not necessary.

Another thing that is not in the fs9 main folder and
does not delete when the sim is uninstalled is the
saved flights, it is in My Documents/fs9.

If you are going to reinstall, you may delete the whole
thing, if you just want to clean up an install, just delete
the flights.

Sometimes if a flight can't find the aircraft it needs
the sim will not start, and sometimes it goes to the
default flight.
