Since the WinZip free trial is now strictly limited I found a nice little freeware alternative. EasyZip here. http://www.thefreesite.com/easyzip111.htm
It works just like WinZip. Once it's installed use the right-click "Extract to C:\blah\blah" option to automatically extract zipfiles to same folder the zip is in. Then read & follow the instructions carefully in the SimV installation tute. ;)

Ive tried a few 'unzippers' and I recommend using zip-geniuse. it can be found at either download.com, or nonags.com (not to be confused with no-nodes), I dont remember wich one I got it from. as for installing the aircraft, take a look at "how to install aircraft" in the downloads section here at SimV. I found it quite helpfull when I first started.

(edit)

Also there is "Extractnow" at Download.com!!

I tried that, it kept having errors and wouldnt extract all of the files. plus, the name makes it sound angry - EXTRACT NOW!!!

ahh, an aircraft texture. these are installed differently than actual aircraft. consult others for more info. it involves changing the aircraft.cfg or whatever, i never mess with it unless i have to.

like i said, others will give advice

If the repaint is for a default aircraft my tute should help. http://www.simviation.com/lair/Repaint2002.htm

It's not difficult once you understand the principle. Name the new texture folder anything you wish - providing it follows the FS folder naming conventions. Texture.3 - Texture.red. - Texture.myairline etc using a period between the Texture prefix & the new suffix. Then edit Aircraft.cfg in Notepad as shown in my tute. Add a new [fltsim.x] entry & point the texture= line in the new entry at it using the suffix of the new texture folder after the period. texture=3 texture=red texture=myairline in the above examples. Don't forget to change the X in [fltsim.x] to the next in sequence & the other entries to suit the new variation of the aircraft.

Repainted textures will only fit the version of the aircraft they were intended for. Before attempting to install textures to 3rd party aircraft make sure you have the correct version of the original aircraft installed properly first. The principle is exactly the same with repainted textures for addon aircraft. Install instructions & a sample Aircraft.cfg entry are usually included in the Readme with the download.

PS. Some repaints are already configured as complete, separate aircraft. In this case install them like any other 3rd party aircraft.

I seem to remember you saying this before about the aircraft installation tute. The link works fine as I checked it out before posting it. The problem must be at your end so I suggest you sort that out before attempting to install files.

I'm sorry but I can't explain it better on the forum than in my tutes & articles posted on my own Lair & in the Simviation Help section. Try the link from my signature. These tutes were all carefully written & have helped literally 1,000s of people get started in this hobby over a period of almost 6 years. There's no sense in repeating it all here without the images which help explain things.

OK, let's give it a go just this once. This is the Add a Repaint tute posted on my site complete with illustrations. It was originally written for FS2002 but the principle is just the same for FS9. I can't do this for every single tute.

===============================
ADD A REPAINT TO THE FS2002 DEFAULT B737_400

This will add a repainted texture to the default b737_400 as a new selectable option on the FS2002 menu.
I'm assuming this is the first repainted texture you're adding to the default aircraft. It will be Paint3

Step 1

Using Windows Explorer, take a duplicate copy of the existing b737_400\texture folder.
The easiest method for doing this is to right-click the texture folder & select Copy.
Now right-click in a clear space & select Paste.
You should now have a new folder named "Copy of texture".

Note the b737_400 has 3 texture folders named texture, texture.1 & texture.2.
Rename your new "Copy of texture" folder to the next in sequence, texture.3.
Now paste in the repainted textures overwriting existing files.

Step 2

Now you need to edit Aircraft.cfg so that FS2002 recognises the new aircraft.

Open Aircraft.cfg in Notepad.
Highlight all the text in the [fltsim.2] entry, right-click & select Copy.
Image

Right-click just above the [General] header & Paste the complete entry below itself

Change all the entries marked in red below

[fltsim.3]
title=Boeing 737-400 Paint3
sim=Boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=3
kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
atc_id=N700MS
atc_airline=Myairline
atc_flight_number=1123
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-400
ui_variation=Myairline
description=One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in overthree decades of service.

The header number [fltsim.2] must be changed to the next in sequence [fltsim.3]

title= is the name recognised if the aircraft is used as AI traffic
texture= is the number of the texture folder it will use, in this case Texture.3

The other entries are mostly self-explanatory

Image

ui_manufacturer= is the Aircraft Manufacturer
ui_type= is the Aircraft model
ui_variation= is the Variation

Exit Notepad, saving changes.

That should do it. Go & check it out in the sim.

Which textures are you trying to install? Tell me the file name & the page number it's posted on so I can check it out.
