Uncommanded rudder movement

Postby beaky » Tue Jan 11, 2005 11:35 pm

What th-!?
Suddenly most of my default and add-on FS9 aircraft rendered unflyable by very sudden uncommanded movement of rudder (haven't checked them all, but...). First time I checked sensitivities/null zones, they had changed (?). Reset them; worked for one a/c, but not another. Went back to a/c that was OK a moment before, and... spastic rudder again. Checked sensitivities, etc: they had not changed. Not good. Hard to even roll down the runway without aircraft veering, tipping, and crashing. Can't fight it w/rudder bar.

What's different since I last had the rudder working (finally) as I wanted it for all my planes, you might ask...?
1- re-installed CFS3 and re-calibrated X45 for that game... changed a few button assignments in CFS3.
2- downloaded/installed 3 a/c from fsdownloads. Have since removed them and restarted sim a few times, but still dealing with "possessed" rudder. Anybody seen this before? ???

I can be sure but I think FSuipc can fixe this by removing abnormal spik.

To me you joystick look like it is giving abnormal spik I would recommende using an other game that could use that rudder. and see if you get that strange twist. ( i think mechwarrior could be use for that test.

best of luck

Thanks, but you lost me at "FSuipc". This is a patch? And what is "spik"?
I think you're right that it's got something to do with the joystick. I had a bit of a struggle months ago setting up the X45 for FS9, but it was rock-solid for months  until I re-calibrated it for the re-install of CFS3... Maybe I should re-install those drivers...?

Hi rotty

Had a similar problem with my Logitech Wingman some time ago and my remedy was a sticky for ages in the hardware forum.

Decided it might be down to a dry solder joint, so I took the stick to bits and resoldered every joint I could find.

Sure enough, stick was fine after and still is well over a year later.

Might be worth looking into... 8)

Had similar problem the other day, Stick or keyboard had slipped connector was resting on keypad enter key forcing rudder all the way right. Just a thought.

Thanks, guys... can't hurt to check the hardware. But how did my control sensitivities, etc. get reset, I wonder?

FSUIPC is a module that can be down loaded but unless you need it you do not have to have it. I think he was trying to say SPIKE not spik. Some joysticks are what is called noisy and give signals when they are not being used. I had a joystick that forced me to unassign the rudder from the keypad assignments. Because the two were interfearing with each other. You could be having the same problem. I now use rudder paddles and unassigned the keyboard keystrokes so there is only the one source now that controls the rudder. FS is always looking for input from either a joystick or keypad when there are two inputs for one control it can create unwanted movement of that control surface. 8)

some of my joysticks made some random inputs to the rudder, so i just widened the null zone util they made little or no effect, i dont know if this'll work, depends on the severity, mine was only small movements.

Thanks gary- good point about the keyboard vs. joystick conflict- I'll try that. And igorski: I tried changing null zone settings to no avail. The rudder movement I'm seeing is pretty dramatic, too- full deflectiion to the right, maybe 3 or 4 times when it happens. What I'd love to know is: Why would it be rock-solid for months, then start going south like that? MUST be related to the reinstall of CFS3.
