Wow

Just flew Meigs to O'Hare IFR real weather, real time (night in Chicago, day here) in a Navajo. Base was 500ft 1.5km vis in snow.
Took off and tuned to KORD ATIS to get rwys in use - they were 9R and 9L so cranked both frqs into NAV1
I was cleared for 2500ft but ATC made me climb to 7000ft I guess because of instrument traffic. They took me about 30 miles out to the west for an ILS approach in from the NW.
Had to maintain 7000 until established on localiser Rwy 9R which was OK except as soon as I was established the ILS had some sort of a failure and I lost GS! I'm pretty certain there is GS on 9R but I was well under it and descending at 1000fpm or a bit more actually. So I had to switch of AP and shoot the approach manually. Sweaty botty time!
Bit of turbulence and stuff but got the occasional rwy glimpse until at 1000ft ran into solid clag. Just had to watch the DME and hold alt and a/s as best possible. Very tricky! But always best to stay high when you know you have got loads of rwy ahead of you to play with. The other way round can be a bit embarrassing.
Bingo, just caught the lead ins but there were buildings not that far below. Landed - not the best ever but OK by me.
A LOT of fun!
OK - back to work....but couldn't miss the opportunity ;)
