I'm new but..

Postby Marlin » Thu Dec 30, 2004 9:57 pm

I would like to thank everyone that has posted here in these fourms!!

After reading alot of stuff I don't really have to many questions. Just click everything but don't hit the OK button if I'm not sure is my computer moto.

"What does that button do". while flying in for a landing isn't the time though  :o

The one thing is, is that I can't seem to get the weather thing going. It keeps saying that I'm not connected to the internet, well oh ya? really huh?

I found somewhere that I had to enter my ISP number to fly online, but didn't fill it out. Is this the problem?

Speaking of weather, is there a setting for variable weather? Or if I click on fogged in lets say, is the whole world fogged in?

Oh just to answer a question, I have the 9.1 version out of the box. If that makes any differance.

For the weather to work you have to be connected to the net. If it still doesn't want download the weather you may have something interfering with FS 2004 like a firewall. Each firewall is different so you will have to check out what you need to give FS 2004 net access. I'm pretty sure there are instructions in the FS 2004 documents that tell what port the sim uses to download weather. Maybe someone with the XP firewall running can give you more info it that's what OS you are using. I use Zone Alarm and it simplifies program net access.

You don't need to enter your IP# but you do need the IP# of the server you are connecting to.

It depends on what setting you use for the weather themes. There's a checkbox that lets you choose whether the settings are local only or all weather stations.

Oh, and welcome to SimV.  ;D

Thanks Matt,

That is one thing I forgot to mention, I'm running the basic XP firewall.

I'll try turning it off then see if that solves the problem, thanks. I should have thouth of that, but well you know the rest.....

Somtimes Norton Internet Security/Personal Firewall may prevent access to the internet connection especially with both FS2002 and FS2004 both installed. I had erased my Norton acesss "rules" occasionally and it didn't pop up the messaging for choosing how to make up an access rule for 2002. Finally i ran 2004 and it worked, and then it worked for FS2002 and I was finally able to load weather again. strange.

Yeah, if you use a weather theme it's that way all over the world. If you use real world weather, the weather will be different everywhere.

Thanks everyone, starting with the simple did the job this time.

All I did was turn off the xp's firewall, simple but good!!!!

I think that is funny, just make it fogged in and you had better know how to use the instriments. Time to go back to the training classes.

Turning off the firewall may work for now but it's best to change the settings in the firewall. That way FS 2004 can communicate with the servers it needs but nothing else has access to your computer. Lot of nasties out there that can creep in with a firewall down.

About the firewall,

I checked to see if I could add it to the list of things to let through, but it is already there. I don't know much about adding onto it, more than just turning off the firewall. DLing the weather, then turning it back on again.

Well I actually tried to add it on, but it said that it couldn't because it was already there. ?????

Maybe someone could tell me what to do, cause it beats me.
