FS9 Flight Lessons

Postby RSA_SEAL » Wed Dec 29, 2004 12:00 pm

Hey guys,

I was clicking my way through the different flights and playing around with settings, when I noticed the "Lessons" section.  Just out of curiosity, which lessons have you guys completed?  Which ones did you find challenging or easy?

Just wondering ;)

Some of them. Most of flying in FS I learned by crashing plenty of times. ;D Now I can fly anywhere, anytime. 8)

Practice makes....well somewhat perfect I guess. ;)

As far as the lessons, the checkrides are nearly impossible....... :( but I didnt do many of the lessons  :o

I haven't  gone very far with the lessons, but it looks like it's worth doing, esp. if you don't have any experience. Watching the instructor demonstrate the maneuvers will help noobs get the basics, and experienced RL pilots get a feel for how the simulation reacts as opposed to the real thing.. I'm planning on (eventually) taking more FS9 instruction flights to brush up, as I haven't done much RL flying the last coupla years.

I passed the PPL checkride, but find the instructor mildly annoying and the female examiner downright rude.
I now fly on Vatsim where I got great lessons.

Incidentally having been flying the C172 in FS9 I went for a trial RW lesson at my local flying club.

As soon as the instuctor handed over the controls to me it felt so natural. And I (almost) new what I was doing. I could actually fly the plane straight off with only the odd word of encouragent from the instructor.

We did a couple of circuits and touch and goes and apart from the 'touch' part of it I had the controls all the way.

In FS 2002 I followed the lessons and got my certificate - and yes, I'm proud of it.

But after the first one I stopped ... I can fly now!

I did the fist one and passed after lots of practise. I did take a peak at the other lessons but couldn't really be bothered too much.

Heh, somebody should get a kick outta this... when browsing the files that came with the game for approach charts, I came across a folder that held every image for the game, and thus, every certificate.

I never saw any lessons in flying a chopper though! That is definitely different than any other aircraft. Luckily since I live near Sikorski, and know a copter pilot i've seen how to (And watching blackhawks don't hurt much either! ;))

MSFS doesn't have chopper lessons. You need to go online for those. Try one of these links.

Cool thread folks.

I passed the private pilot's certificate on fs9, and the instrument flying lessons.  Didn't try the checkride for that -- had joysticks issues back then, and didn't want to get the instructor in my face (so to speak :)). And I've worked through some of the multi-engine lessons with the Baron.  Haven't gone beyond that.  Lately, I've been flying the big jets a lot, with a lot of help from the autopilot .... but hey I enjoy it, and I guess that's what this is about.  :)  At some point I do want to go back and get the other certificates.  I really thought the lessons were pretty good, and helpful.

Now the neat thing is this: one of my best friends gave me a gift certificate to the local flying school for a free flying lesson, for my birthday .... (today :)!) .... I'm really excited about that and can't wait to schedule it!  Now that will be totally awesome!
