Hmm, no just tried that.  I'm really, really trying to avoid a re-install here after the hell I went through to repaint the default AI acft  :P.

Play something else with sound and see if you still have the crackling sound, if you do then check the speakers. At least you will eliminate the speakers being at fault.

Yup, speakers are fine.  Just fs. tried deleting my most recent acft dl (I got one right after my flight last night, when everything was fine) and that didn't help.  *sigh*... I was supposed to be flyin this break...  :(  Man, I REALLY don't wanna un-install

Have you tried updating your soundcard's drivers?

I doubt that's the problem, considering this just started out of the blue and was working fine before.

Have you recently updated your video drivers?

cant help with the sound problem but if you do re-install, just save all the repaints etc you have, then re-install them afterwards. This goes for aircraft, scenery etc.. just remember gauges and effects also need to be backed up or you'll get bank panels and no smoke!

Yup, I know, done it a million times, the problem is if one of those files is the one causing the crackly sound and that it's a pain in the ass to copy all those  :P.  I might as well go with the reinstall.

I would suggest backing up all of your add-ons, then uninstalling FS, reinstalling it, and try it without any add-ons, if you still have the problem, then obviously it isnt from an add-on. If you dont have the problem, then install one add-on at a time and try it each time, eventually you will find out which one is doing it. Its a LOT of work, but it may be your only option.

I have the same exact problem - the only difference though is that I have NO add-ons whatsoever.  My speakers are brand new, so I have no clue what to do. :'(

I updated all my drivers, including audio and graphics card, but no luck.  I read through the "Readme", and reset everything - still nothing.  So then I decided to uninstall FS9, and hopefully all will be solved once reinstaled...
