Same here but only better ;) I have used SP2 since it was BETA and still am with no problems at all.

Mentioned early this morning I stated that the SP2 patch is known to mess with people who have spyware installed on thier system at the time of upgrading to SP2.
Try to uninstall SP2, scan for everything (viruses, spyware) I recommend HijackThis it will find stuff that even the most respected Spyware programs will miss, becareful using it READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!

Then try to re-install SP2

mmm....Sounds like the BIGGEST problem with SP2 is that it only works for SOME and screws up OTHERS. If that's the case then I guess it IS a pain in the butt, and for what it does, is not worth the trouble ...commoner ;D

Here is a hint for anyone thinking about installing SP2.

Get the full SP2 network installation download from MS here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Save it somewhere safe like onto a CD and then FORMAT. Disconnect your internet connection then  Install WinXP and then run SP2 immediately afterwards BEFORE re-connecting to the internet!

Get yourself a good Freeware firewall, and disable the new windows firewall and security center, (you'll need to shut off the security service from control panel as well).

Disable auto-updates and stay away from the MS site unless you want more trouble.

Good advice. Also here is a link to a tutorial for HJT. The BHO and Toobar link is particuarly useful. It lets you look up things HJT finds and determine whether they are hostile or not. Remember HJT shows you everything even the things that you need to keep.

I just got over the SP2 nightmare. Prior to SP2 my 6 month old Systemmax 64 3200+ ran fine to include burning software and sharing a printer with my old computer that my wife now has , a Systemax 1.4ghz.
The old onw runs Xp Home. My new one runs Xp Professional.
My neighbor has a Systemax 1 ghz with XP home.. Unfortunately eith one of the older computers run Flight Simulator.
I tried everything short of reformatting my hard drive, which I refused to do. Reinstalling , drivers all updated, and nothing worked. I spent hours attempting to get my printer shared again to no avail.
Saturday I Uninstalled SP2 from my computer and during the uninstallation , a menu popped up stating that I may have problems running the below listed software programs which included my burner, that had ceased to operate. I , without hesitation, hit the continue button .
When SP2 was gone, and I rebooted, I had a good computer again with everything working as it previously was. Now I only download the hotfixes that I need and they do not require SP2. I figure I am behind a broad router and I have outstanding spyware and antivirus programs which I refuse to run with out.
Hope this helps.
Rectifier. :D

:) ;) :D ;D

I'm running sp2 just fine, however,  think it's a lil too heavy but no poblem at all, what I've found very hard to understand was fs9 upgrade, the 1st 've installed it was a piece of cake, this second time (I've made a huuuuge PC upgrade) I couldn't install it again, had to reformat my fs drive (d:\) and do everything again.....
but no problem at all due to fs9 - maybe U must look for bugs during the sp2 installation - did this occur???

sorry if I couldn't help more in this very matter

cya!
