Weather and Overspeed

A lot of times when im flying, and when im minding my own business cruising at 30,000 feet, I seem to get this sudden push in the back (which I believe is the weather), and all of a sudden my plane goes past its never exceed speed momentarily.  I could be like 50-150 knots under my Vne, and that sudden push in the back makes me overspeed.  Kind of makes me mad because i know the manufacturer definately doesnt want me to go past that mark!  

So my question is, first off, is this the wind?  And second, does it happen much in real life?  What is the best way to anticipate this happening?

Yes, it is the wind, it has happened many a time to me in rough skies.  The winds aloft change suddenly and you can be going into a massive headwind only to have it turned around and be getting a massive tailwind.  As for anticipating it, I look at the weather reports before and note any areas where the wind changes suddenly (you can do this by dling real-world weather, hitting ok, going back into the weather screen and hitting "user-defined weather" and then clicking on "customize weather".  You can now click on each individual weather station, which will have retained it's real-world weather settings).  As for how often it happens in real life, I'm not sure.

it seems to me that if you have a tail wind, you would have a higher ground speed Vs IAS, I dont see why it would cause you to overspeed.
