Cockpit disappeared

Postby alanmus » Mon Dec 13, 2004 5:52 am

Hi all
The cockpit view in all my 'planes has disappeared! All other views are fine. When I hit "Alt" or right click it reappears but in pause mode  ???
Has anybody got any ideas on how to solve the problem?
Thanks in advance for any advice

                       Regards....Alan

Have you hit W at all?

Hi Eno
Thanks for your reply. Yes I have tried "W". If I hit "W" once the limited guage view will only appear if I then hit "Alt" but it is in pause mode

Sounds like a display problem. If this happened suddenly for no apparent reason have you changed your video card drivers or display settings recently?

Try to think of anything you did since it last worked properly. This could be affected by anything. even something apparently unconnected with FS9 itself. Installing the latest DirectX 9.0c gave me display problems I didn't have before.

Hi Alan. I assume that didn't fix your problem & that this is not connected with the W key.

Much will depend on your system specs & video card. I've read posts on this forum about panel display problems caused by various things. I forget the exact details but this might be caused by installing a particular set of updated video card drivers or a WinXP service pack, also display settings either for your system, video card or FS9 itself. Things are so complicated these days as there are so many possible variables. If I haven't experienced a problem myself it's very difficult to suggest a fix for it.

Hi Hagar. the only thing that I have done recently is to tweak the cfg. files using the "fsconfig" utility from Visual Flight everything worked fine afterwards. I really cant think of anything else I may have done to cause the problem [url][/http://www.visualflight.co.uk/fs2004toolkit/url]

I obviously didn't put that link in correctly! Sorry.
I expect I shall probably end up doing a reinstall. A real pain as I have loads of add-ons. Oh well!!

I haven't tried the utility you mention & it might be perfectly OK. If the problem didn't appear directly after using it I doubt that would be the cause.

I never trusted these automatic utilities myself, whether for installing addons or tweaking the sim. I much prefer doing everything manually. Then if anything goes wrong you know exactly what you did & can easily revert back to how it was before. This has worked well for me in all versions of FS/CFS over a period of several years.

Sounds like a fs9.cfg problem to me. Take a backup copy of the existing file if you have added any manual edits to it (like old_modules, no_brake_message etc), delete it and restart the sim. It'll make a new cfg file - see if your panels reappear  ;)

Hi Hagar. I am not very confident about tweaking the Sim manually although I do all my add-ons manually
