Retrun to FS9 Screenshot ?

Postby JFG389 » Sat Dec 04, 2004 7:32 am

Dear People in the know,

I down loaded a great plane, a Rutan HBYCT for here, but it took away the DC-3 screen shot that I liked, now how do I get rid of just the screen shot of the RUTAN plane and return to the DC-3 splash screen?

I see in the forum there is a tool for adding splash screens would this work for getting back to the orginal FS 9 screenshot?

Thanks for your helps JFG

Hi there

We had a thread about this a while ago. People were very annoyed that this guys had the nerve to over-write files but there is a mention about it in the Readme. He actually updated the upload because of it I think so maybe you've picked up an old one.

But never fear - he did create a backup of your old splash screen which again I think he mentions in the Readme  ???

Look in the folder ....\uires\

The original was called digsplash.bmp and I think you'll find a backup copy with a similar name in there

Thanks Roller Ball,

How do I go about getting the FS9 orginal screenshot back?
I'm not very smart at this stuff of files manipulations things, what do I do?
I tried to move and rename the files in this addon but it did nothing, so I deleted it and now I have a blank screen shot?
Any one help here please!!!???

Thanks Commer for your helps.

I don't like to give out my e-mail, unless its protected form being put on lists of spam mail and; so on had to get a new e-mail address resently just to keep the spam away.
If I got the FS-9 splash screen as a zip flie or regular file I would copy it to the FS-9 Uries file but then what?
Thanks again if you can help and I can understand how to do it.

if you want to keep an email address protected from spam bots, type it like this:

username AT domain DOT com

or

username @ domain DOT com

The same thing happend ot me.

I was annoyed at first (I still am of overwriting files without permission) but I soon just downloaded and installed a better splash screen.
There are many great ones out there for your chosing and installing one is just another way of customizing FS2004.

In fact, I have made some splash screens of my own and I just happend to upload one of them today.
It should be avable here soon with a few more to follow.

Sorry, forgot to type the fix for the changed splash screen.

Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Uires

You should see a file named dlgsplash. The thumbnail image should show the Rutan splashscreen. Change the name of that to something else, like dlgsplash2. Then right next to that file should be another one, which is titled dlgsplashins or something like that. This should have a thumbnail image that shows the original splashscreen. Change the name of this file to dlgsplash. Be sure you type it right and you should have your original splash back.

Yes, it`s called "dlgsplashis" .
However, this is not the original splash screen.
It is the one for "Instructor Station" hence the "is" addition to the filename.

At first glance it will look like the original but it has the words "Instructor Station" in the lower, right corner.

P.S.
I forgot to mention that the original splash screen (dlgsplash.bmp) is on:

FS9 disk 2>MSGAME3.cab\

Just use winzip in the classic mode to extract it.  :)

JFG......ANY 800x600 bitmap (.bmp) file with the file name dlgsplash which is placed in the Uires folder of FS9 will automatically become your opening splash screen....could be a pic of you or the dog or whatever you choose.......Here is a pic of the original dgsplash from fs9...........if you "right click" on the pic ...then click "save pic as"...you can save it directly into Uires as dlgsplash but select "type" bitmap first. Alternatively do a "printscreen" if you like and paste it into your imaging software..crop as neccessary, then save as "800x600" dlgsplash.bmp into the Uires folder.........can you do that do you think?..commoner. Hope I don't get into trouble for posting the M$ splashscreen ;D

Many Thanks Commoner and Jknight8907, for your helps.
I now know how and have put back the FS-9 Splash Screen and will be able now to do other Spash Screens of 800X600 Bitmap files.

I couldn't figure out how to get the orignal splash screen form FS9 disk 2 ? But I did get the Orignal Splash Screen with Instructors Station on it and the DC-3.

Thanks again guys for helpiing me learn how to install any splash screen.

Glad you got it sorted out and learned how to install a splash screen.

Don`t forget to back them up!!!
I created a sub folder in my uries folder (called "SS backups") where I keep my collection of them them.
Then, all you have to do is a simple copy and paste to change the splash screen.
Just make shure the one you are overwriting is backed up!

P.S.
Perhaps you might like the new "Lockheed Constellation splash screen" (conniesplash1.zip) in todays downloads by some talented guy named Joe.

Sorry!! I didn't even notice it said Instructors Station until I loaded FS this afternoon. So, if you want to use the Instructors Station, you will need to copy your current splash screen (that says Instructor Station on it, filename dlgsplash) and rename the copy to dlgsplashins (I'm pretty sure that was the original filename of it. Maybe someone with the original knows.

Yes Jknight... there should be dlgsplashins and dlgsplash.....two different items .....one for normal startup and the other for...well for the Instructor Station startup ;)....if you have lost the dlgsplash...you could take a copy of the dlgsplashins and easily edit out the Instructor Station bit in Photoshop or whatever you use, to make a normal dlgsplash eh?..commoner :)
