Postby dgcx50x » Fri Nov 26, 2004 5:17 pm

Hey guys I am having a problem when I use my kneeboard. When I go to scroll down for information My FS shuts down and I get a fatal error. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Are you using one of the add on kneeboards. Those will sometimes crash the sim if it tries to load a page that isn't available.

Thank you for the responce. No it is the one that came with FS. I have thought that it might be necessary to reinstall FS.

I'm having the exact same problem.  I have a GeForce FX 5900 with 128 Meg.  I'm also experiencing "crashes to the desktop" in other locations as well.  I'll watch to see if we get any responses.

Never had that problem but I wonder if you've lost some of the .html files the kneeboards use. Is this every page or a certain page such as the Checklist or Reference page? Also is this the default aircraft or add on? Best way to check it out is to use the default Cessna and navigate to the folder for that plane and make sure there's "cessna172sp_check.htm" and "cessna172sp_ref.htm" files in the main C172 folder.

Next load up the Cessna 172 and try the reference or the checklist on the kneeboard. If it crashes the sim that way then you may want to extract the two files mentioned above from your installation disks. If you replace those files and it still does it then maybe a reinstall is in order (you also might want to try rebuilding your Fs9.cfg first. Can't hurt).

Thanks for the information. I did a complete reinstall amd wiped out all of my add ons. It is still the same. Also I can not get any of the select flights to load either. It seems as if it starts to load a flight and then crashes with a fatal error message. I have not messed with any files btw. This is very upsetting. I hope someone out there finds a way to fix this problem. Thx again.

If you wiped all your files and uninstalled (you have to manually delete a few leftover files-this got me one time) then it's a computer problem.  When did this problem start?

The usual culprit is the fs9.cfg
"C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.CFG"

Thanks guys. I am not sure when it started maybe two weeks ago. It very well could be in my fs9. cfg file but I am not sure what I need to do to it. If you could give me a little bit of info on changes I could make I will give it a shot. I did find a way to fly the select flights but I have to open them in windows explorer. But it worked.

fs9.cfg is created when the setup for FS9 is changed. the original fs9.cfg is created (by FS9) when the prog is installed and it is easily corrupted.
since installing FS9 the day it came out, i must have deleted the fs9.cfg at least twenty times.

When FS9 is restarted, it automatically creates another (clean) fs9.cfg

it only takes about four minutes to set everything back the way we like (from FS9 Opening Menus) and off we go again.

on my system, usng FS9 Logbook feature caused all my fs9.cfg problems (crash-to-desktop) and since i quite using the logbook everything's been o.k.

hope  this helps

I have had this problem and I would be willing to bet it is your graphics driver.
On my Nvidia 5200 FX I have troubles with just about any driver newer than the 61.11.

Problem is mainly noticed using the kneeboard, it won't scroll correctly or crashes or both.

If you have recently updated your drivers try and roll back too older ones that you have used in the past ;)
