non-ILS Landing

ok this may seem like a very stupid question but how do i land with a big jet on a runway that doesnt have ILS

just like you would a cessna 172.  Line up with the runway, if there are the VASIs on the left of the runway, keep them to two red, two white and bring it down nice and easy,  you have to judge this by your eye...hence VFR Visual Flight Rules..look at the runway and get your jet down by the time you cross the numbers.  Jet airline pilots land visual all the time. pretty easy once you do it a few times.   Good luck! happy landings (and crashes while you try it out! lol)

using the Beechcraft Baron 50 i tried making the short hop from HTZA to HTTG (my home airport) but no luck i cant land

any advice

Hi Erhard.....apart from John's advice to practice a lot.....there remains the final solution if you are really desperate....come in over the runway cut the power first if you want

Seriously....... take the time to go to the flight school that is listed in the sim.  It may seem pretty "plain vanilla",........ but you'll learn skills that you really do need in order to "graduate" to the more complex and difficult to fly aircraft.

When you can land the C172 well...... then try moving up to a light twin engine prop.  When you can land them well....... then try on of the small corporate jets like the Lear.  When those are OK to get on and off the ground.... try a big commercial multi engine prop job.  When you can get that down in one piece well...... go forone of the smaller of the "heavy metal" commercial jets.  When that works.... got for the biggies.

No... it is not fast.  But it is VERY satisfying when you can do it well.

The way I practiced my landing when I first started, was to save a flight on approach maybe 5 miles away at 2,000 ft .
Then you can practice landing without the take offs etc.
When you open up the saved flight you are ready to land!
Practice on the Cessna, until you have the basics.

...Chief's idea is sound....and if you go ...select a flight..short flights....there is one set up at Ohare I believe its called on approach or somthing like that. You can run it over and over till you get some confidence to try your own..

Dude, if you can't land the Baron there's no way you'll get a Boeing on the ground in one piece.  The Baron is a pretty big step up from the Cessna 172.  Get good at landing the 172, then move on to bigger craft.  Get good at the Baron then learn the Caravan, then the King Air, then the Lear, then the 737.  That's a pretty good learning path for the tricycle geared planes.

But start with the Lessons in the Learning center.  They'll save you a ton of time and frustration.

My instructor thought practicing slow flight was excellent preparation for landing. Try the lesson on slow flight. Get used to the way the airplane handles when you are near the stall speed. This is very close to the speeds you will use on approach and landing.
