FS on a TabletPC (no CD)

Postby Bryhawks » Wed Nov 24, 2004 5:58 pm

I just got a new Tablet PC (the HP TC1100) and I would like to install my new FS2004 on it to review tutorials, etc. while on the bus every day. I'm going to install it on my desktop at home for actual flying (the joystick is a little cumbersome on the bus!) but I thought I might get a lot of value out of just going through help, tutorials, etc. while portable.

However - I read that you need to have CD#4 in the drive for it to run, and the tablet has no internal CD-ROM. I could do a disk image, and will if I have to, but it's only got a 40GB drive, and with all the development tools, videos and other stuff already on it, I don't want to have to take up any more HD space than already necessary. Is there a no-CD patch to help me out here? Am I venturing into bad territory just by asking?

Thanks,
Bryan

Actually if you just want the Learning Center and Help files and aren't going to fly from your notebook why not copy the "FSweb" folder from your desktop installation to your notebook. That way you will save even more disk space.

Thanks, Matt - that might be enough. I don't know if it's even playable on the tablet with only the pen and I haven't yet installed it on my desktop. At least this should work for the learning bit.

Processor/video card power aside, would this be playable with the pen/mouse, with no joystick? Should I even bother attempting the install on the tablet (which is a good performer - 512MB ram, GeForce Go 420, Pentium M 1.0GHz (equiv. to 1.6-2.0GHz P4 according to many others)?

Thanks,
Bryan

I know that I wouldn't waste my time as the performance would be very limited even due to just battery power.. :-)

I would do like you suggested and work on tutorials etc in the travel time, and spend hours enjoying the knowledge once I got home.. :-)
