Hi Jabo. I tried various other sims before settling on CFS & eventually FS. I've been through all versions since CFS1 was first released. The main thing that tipped the scales for me is the open-architecture structure of the M$ sims. This allows me to create new aircraft, scenery, add AI traffic etc. to make it as I want it. I coudn't have done this without the generous contributions of the many talented 3rd party developers who created the utilities to make it easier, in most cases without any thought of reward. I won't name any in case I miss some but they know who they are & how grateful I am.
There might be sims out there that look better or have specific features but I can't think of any comparable product that allows this. Although it's not easy to start with you improve as you go & it gives me more pleasure than actually "flying" the sims. If it was too easy there would be no fun or satisfaction in it. My advice to anyone thinking of doing it would be - don't be too ambitious or expect instant results. Start off, as I did, by modifying panels or doing some basic repainting & progress from there.
I've been interested in this side of the hobby for almost 6 years & started messing around as soon as I found Simviation, not long after first getting CFS1. I've made a lot of good friends all over the world, most of them far more talented than I'll ever be.
