Computer crashes only in Poland ???

Postby wilderobb » Sun Nov 21, 2004 6:24 pm

This is a new one to me: When flying up the Wista (Vistula) river in Poland everthing was going fine until I took a short flight from Bydgoszcz (EPBY) to Deblin Mil. (EPDE).  All's well until I get about 3 to 5 miles from Deblin and my computer crashes with no worning to desktop. Ok, I think to myself, Microsoft can do strange things from time to time so the next day I fly it again. Same results. Crash to desktop! So then I took the same plane and tryed it out around my stomping grounds and eveything is just fine. So I then set myself up to start up right at the Deblin airport. No sir; Crash to desktop. Of all the hundreds of airports I'v landed at I'v never seen anything like this. I can't seem to go anywhere near the place!! (I'l try at 5000 feet to over fly it)  Will sombody try this short flight or try to set up at that airport?  Crazy Man, I think it may be a Vortex :o

Time of day?  Have you any add-on scenery for that area?

Just tried starting a flight from there and it loaded and ran OK but I saw a lot of jittering in the spot plane view that I don't see at other airports. Not sure if that has any significance.

You also may want to try a different season. Some areas of ACOF have a season bug that crashes the sim in one season or another. I think it may have something to do with textures.

I have had fs9 crash when using real world weather.  Once in a great while, it seems, one of the weather records will be corrupt and fs9 tries to use it anyway.  When I refly the route with default weather it didn't crash.

Any chance you might have conflicting AFCAD files?  I once had two AFCAD files for the same airport installed and it caused a conflict making FS9 crash.

Seems fine to me. Suggest you might have a corrupt terrain texture. Have you got the fs9 patch installed?

I've not had any problems with it. It was designed to add many bridges and stuff that were omitted from FS9 in error (having been included in previous sims) and correct many known terrain and ground texture problems so this could be the root of your problem.

But don't blame me if it isn't :)

???

Dunno what these 'reviews' have to say but I can't see how the patch can do anything but good. It corrects known problems - doesn't introduce new ones.

Specifically, apart from adding scenery features like bridges that were omitted it corrects an autogen handling problem and a serious ground texture problem where crashing was caused by landclass/seasonality issues. The latter could well be the cause of your problems.

IMO anyone who tells you their sim is running worse after installing it is plain wrong - but as you can uninstall it anyway and replace the files it changes, I can't see what's to lose.

Trouble is that many people cock-up the installation of addons and then try to blame everyone but themselves when things go wrong - I'm not saying or even implying that this applies in any way at all in this case  ;)

I had to do a fresh install not too long ago (including my OS and everything else)  The patch crashed in the middle of the process and when I restored the backup, FS9 recognized neither new scenery nor new planes...lost my add-on planes and most of my scenery (something went wrong when backing up to DVD...)

But anyways, most planes were not ones I flew frequently and I had backups of my Lyons payware anyways.

I'd be inclined to patch...if something goes wrong, then a fresh install won't kill ya! ;)  Things may run better too!
