Well, the problem is with the ` key, is the nearest airport in places like where he is usually don't have weather repoting of any sort, so you would have to go through many selections (if there are any near you) in hopes of finding one that gives you an ATIS availability.
What would I do?
I'd figure out where I was going, use the map feature and find all airports along my approximate route, then find which ones have ATIS, then write down all the pertinant information of all those airports on my homemade airport information sheet on my clipboard. I also have things like runway length, airport elevation, ILS freq for each runway, and ILS headings, nearby VOR's NDB's and ADF's. I like to have as much navigational information possible wherever I fly. Of course I have all of the Kenai/Anchorage information memorized, but I still have a sheet for that, and a sectional chart daboot. :o
