AHop, Skip and Jump

Postby wilderobb » Fri Nov 19, 2004 1:55 am

Guys, out of all the aircraft I have, one is a Cessna 310 I put together. It's a wonderful plane, easy to fly and I can pretend to be Sky King from time to time. ( Actually I'v been thinking of Penny.)  Any how this plane wants to hop and skip down the runway when I reach the speed of 80 on take off. It also lands fine only if I'm going no more than 80 at touchdown. No others I have do this, such as King Air 350 or the Queen Air. What do you think could be doing this? Or is it just a really good or really bad air cfg. file or something? Thanks, Wildie :-[

You might take a look at the aircraft.cfg file and compare the landing gear strut dynamics to those of a similar aircraft.

[contact_points]
//0  Class    (1=wheel......
//1  Longitudinal Position        (feet)
//2  Lateral Position             (feet)
//3  Vertical Position            (feet)
//4  Impact Damage Threshold      (Feet Per Minute)
//5  Brake Map                   (0=None, 1=Left, 2=Right)
//6  Wheel Radius                (feet)
//7  Steer Angle                         (degrees)
//8  Static Compression           (feet)  (0 if rigid)
//9  Max/Static Compression Ratio
//10 Damping Ratio               (0=Undamped, 1=Critically Damped)
//11 Extension Time              (seconds)
//12 Retraction Time             (seconds)
//13 Sound Type
//14 Airspeed limit for retraction (KIAS)
//15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS)
//GEAR
point.0= 1, 25.00, 0.000, -12.900, 3000.000, 0.000, .800, 65.000, 0.250, 1.500, 0.900, 8.000, 8.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000

Another possibility might be an errant scrape point. In spot view, take off from a dirt or grass runway and see if any odd scrapes, indicated by a dust cloud, show up.

Dont know if these are the only possibilities, but worth a look.

Cheers,
Dave
At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

I also have the aircraft and if I'm in a densely populated area with lots of traffic I do notice a decent FPS hit...especially on takeoff, really doesn't happen any other time...

Are your FPS dipping low enough to give you this problem as mine are?

No it was'nt the frame rate, the plane does hop and skip on take off and landings at speeds above 80 to such an extent it will nose down on the runway and crash!   I found the problem though.      It was the pushback/taxispeed gauge I installed the other day. (rcbgh-31 Ground Handeling Gauges) Maybe their for larger aircraft or I'm not using it right. I'l read all 19 pages of instructions again and if I can't fix it I'l get rid of it. ( I did reinstall the origanal panel cfg. file and all's ok now.) Thanks guy and gals! ;)

Disregard my last post. It was'nt my gauges. I still don't know what it is but after reinstalling the cfg. file with the gauges in question I can now get up to 90 without it hopping up and down too much. Perhaps I added more fuel,(I sometimes do this). So I'l check. ANY MORE SUGGESTIONS???.   Thank a million, Wildie.   PS. How do I post a photo from time to time. I could'nt figure out if I need a web site or what. I did discover the little bio. in the profile, Just discoverd the profile itself! So I upgraded it a little.  Peace All.....
