Random crashing

I just patched FS2004 to see what improvements it had. I started a flight and took off and after a few minutes, my CD drives went crazy and the program froze. I was forced to restart the program, but I thought this was just something that rarely happened. After I restarted it, the same thing happened. I then uninstalled it and deleted every trace of FS2004 on my computer and reinstalled it. Same thing... So I installed the no cd patch... my other CD drive went crazy and it crashed. I've been playing this game for over half year now and I don't want to stop playing, but after these series of recent crashes and too many uninstalls and reinstalls, I'm about to give up.... I scanned my computer for viruses(Norton antivirus) and spyware(adware and spybot S&D) but it turned up nothing. Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.2ghz
GeforceFX5200 128MB
1024RAM
Comcast Cable

Please help  :(

I had the same issue, "Failed to read from file", I uninstalled 9.1, no different from 9.0 except 9.0 hasn't given me a failed to read

Whoa there!  Some questions where the answers may be helpful...

What OS are you running?

What hardware do you have?

Do you have a lot of add-ons?

Are any other games having a problem with your drives?  Moot, I know, if FS9 is all you play.

I'm running Windows XP. Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.2ghz
GeforceFX5200 128MB
1024RAM
Comcast Cable

I used to have project AI addons, but when I uninstalled FS9,  I also cleared all the addons I installed so that shouldn't be a  factor after reinstalling. All my other games are fine, and FS2004 used to run just fine until just recently.
