Turboprop creep

Postby stanaud » Tue Nov 09, 2004 9:40 am

All turboprop planes creep when the brake is taken off.  Someone a while back offered a fix but it didn't work, at least for me.  When I taxi with throttle retarded the plane will race forward after a while.

My problem with FS9 is that some of them even creep with the brakes on.

I can think of two fixes off the top of my head:

1. Feather the props.

2. Are you using a throttle control with your joystick?  Recalibrate, leaving a small area at the bottom of the movement that is null.  This will give it a more pronounced cutoff area.

There are a couple of things that you can do
You can install the taxi gauge from avsim this helps a lot
You can also alter the aircraft cfg file to apply more brake pressure This is a little tricky.
If you are using FSUIPC I have found that this somehow can effect turbopros and the way they taxi. I am not sure why or how but all I know is I had this problem I removed FSUPIC and the problem went away. I did not change any thing else. I have FSUIPC installed now and I have the same problem. I can not remove FSUIPC right now because I am currently involved in BOTA (BATTLE OF THE AIRLINES). But rest assured once I finish FSUPIC will byte the dust. 8)

2 or 3 things you can do.

1.  Make sure if you have control levers available (eg in Kingair) that throttles are set to low idle. This will usually solve the problem.

2.  Increase brake power in aircraft.cfg.

eg

[brakes]
parking_brake = 1       //Parking brake available
toe_brakes_scale = 1.0  //Brake scalar

Increase scalar rfom 1.0 to 1.5, 2.0 whatever.

But be careful, you can end up standing the aircraft up on its nose on landing!

3. Increase the throttle scale in the fs9.cfg file
eg

[JOYSTICK_MAIN {55133000-FB3C-11D8-8001-444553540000}]
AXIS_EVENT_00=AXIS_AILERONS_SET
AXIS_SCALE_00=64
AXIS_NULL_00=36
AXIS_EVENT_01=AXIS_ELEVATOR_SET
AXIS_SCALE_01=64
AXIS_NULL_01=36
AXIS_EVENT_05=AXIS_RUDDER_SET
AXIS_SCALE_05=64
AXIS_NULL_05=36
AXIS_EVENT_06=AXIS_THROTTLE_SET
AXIS_SCALE_06=127
AXIS_NULL_06=1
etc

Increase the 127 shown in red to say 131. This is an old FS2002 trick and it does work.

Man, I was just thinking about this the other day when I was holding short of a runway and doing my pre-takeoff, with the parking brake set. I gave the throttle a tiny bit of juice in order to arm the speedbrake, and then requested clearence for takeoff.

This is a problem that's plagued the sim at least as far back as FS 2002 and they haven't fixed it in 2004. I've found that installing the guage works best for me but thanks Rollerball for your solution. It might be worth a try too. It seems the King Air is the worst with this problem. It'll almost take off by it'self while at idle.

First off, I work around the aircraft pictured below 4 times a week. The 1900 is basicly an extended Kingair 350 with 1100 SHp PT6 engines.

It is very rare for these aircraft to idle on the ground in High Idle.

In the snow, it doesn't take much more than Idle Power to ove the aircraft, even with the brakes locked.

You will never see a 1900 roll foward with the props in feather on a level ground from a standstill.

Just some information to help out your understanding.

I agree the king air seems to be the worst at doing this,
But I have a dash 8 that will do it also if you do not bring down the power levers. There are a few other twin engine turbo props that also have the same problem.
I just thought it strange that I never had this problem untill I installed FSUIPC and the problem goes away when it is removed.
I seem to remember that older versions of FSUIPC had a tab to control ground speeds. But Since I do not have a registered version I do not see these tabs.
