new panel problem.....

Postby Anti-Societys Snake » Sat Oct 09, 2004 6:28 pm

I just dloaded a new panel for a phantom I just got. and this is what it lookslike

Image

how do I fix this?

And when  I try to land the phantom, the nose craashes into the ground. At first it was because it was because the plane won't flare  with the flaps down, but then I started point the nose up to 10 degrees and let it slowly fall to the runway, it did the same thing but I couldn't see the runway and missed it every time. any help?

Heya Hanzaki,

There's an excellent freeware program available right here at SimV called FlightSim Manager 2.6.1.

About the panel, very possibly you just need to switch the panel lights on!  Pressing 'L' will turn all lights on.  Or just switch to daytime  :)

About seeing out the front, 'Shift/Enter' raises the seat ('Shift/Backspace' lowers it again).  To see the runway at night, make sure the landing lights are on.

About not flaring/crashing on landing, you don't mention what speed you are doing.  Sounds as if you might just be getting below flying speed and stalling in.  Check the landing speed in the manual or on the Kneeboard, and stay at or above it.

Hope some of that helps!

what you are probably missing is the .bmp file that came or should have came with the download. this  bitmap file is placed in the panel directory and is the surround for your instruments. alternately you can borrow so to speak a default existing  panel or download a jet panel from sim v and after backing up your panel directory in the aircraft folder in question simply copy the new panel into the aircraft folder in question - either the downloaded panel or the panel from say the learjet you should already have and you should be in business . cheers mate! hope this helps.

Looks like you already got some good suggestions for the panel problem you are having.

As for the download manager, I use Leechget. It's free, NO banner ads, no spyware and very easy to use. Do a Google search and you can download it. Has RESUME option if the website supports it, most do.

Good luck.

Thank you all! I fixed the problem, I accidentaly renamed the bmp file.

And the jet didn't come with a reference sheet.... am I supposed to come into the air port at 250 knots? that when I get control of the plane (controls like a whale, but it is flyable at that speed)

Heya Hanzaki,

Like most fighter aircraft (even with full flaps) the landing speed of the F-4 Phantom should be around 180-200 kts.

As for the afterburners first increase the throttle to full, then press Shift + F4.  To disengage the afterburners press Shift + F4 again or simply decrease the throttle.

No problem Hanzaki.  I don't have the F-4 Phantom so I don't know if the author included any afterburner effects.  I might have to download it to see.

I have modified my military fighter aircraft (that have afterburners) with the excellent Military-Package v1.2
Effects and XML- Gauges for FS9 and FS-2002 Military-Jets By Toshikazu-Shimizu (Water-Toshi).

You can download this package here:

http://ww71.tiki.ne.jp/~water-t/milpac012.zip

Let's take my F-14 Tomcat by Dino Cattaneo for example.  I can takeoff and switch to Exterior View.  I apply full throttle then press Shift + F4 to engage the afterburners.  When the afterburners engage I see the aircraft's engines both emitting a bluish-green flame which tapers off gradually.  With the afterburners on I can switch the view back to Cockpit where I have a Gauge on my F-14 panel which shows the afterburners are active.  The flame effects and the gauge are included in Water-Toshi's package.

The Military-Package Effects comes with very good instructions on how to modify any of your aircraft to add these effects.  If you need any assistance adding these effects just IM me here at SimV and I'll be glad to help.
