Duplication of FS2002 and FS9

Postby fly » Sun Oct 10, 2004 4:48 am

G,day all and in particular to Politically Incorrect who had a reply about the FS2004 Patch and his concerns about loosing ADD ons etc.
You may be interested in an exercise which i have just carried out on FS2002
1.Uninstalled FS2002
2.Looked at directory and noticed all ADD ons were still there.
3. Reinstalled FS2002
4.Run FS2002 --All OK(including ADDons)

I have done a further  simple exercise of So i can do all the testing of ADD ons without concern of loosing a lot of time and work.

I have a partitioned drive so all i have done is Copy the whole of FS2002 from my `D` drive and pasted it in my `C`drive.
I then openedC:\FS2002(no subfolder of Microsoft Games) found the `exe` fileand created a shortcut to this file on the desktop.
For safety i placed this  shortcut in a new folder called FS TEST on the desk top.

To prove to myself that i have  TWO SEPARATE FS2002 simulators i deleted a few aircraft from the C:\FS2002 installation and ran both installations, one showing  a few less aircraft.

I can now use C:\FS2002 for testing various  ADD ons before installing to my main FS2002 directory on the `D` drive.
If i have a problem with new ADD ons i can delete(C:\FS2002) and  do the above COPY and PASTE exercise again.

I did the same  exercise some time ago on FS9 and it worked  OK.
Hope this info will be some use  to anyone who likes to keep a clean  copy of their simulators..

This has worked well on a partitioned drive but it should also work  where you have a second hard drive .

Any  positive comments would be greatly appreciated.REGARDS  fly ;D

I have two installations of FS9 on two different hard drive partitions and both work just fine and independent of each other.  One is basically used to test things like tweaks, and well...this patch...

If you have the disk space, I recomend it for those who are afraid to lose their hard work in customizing their sim.
