Mysterious Weather startup problem??

Postby Gixer » Mon Oct 04, 2004 7:46 am

OK, got a bit of a strange problem here.  I was having problems with my FS2004 just crashing whilst trying to create a flight.  It turns out I cannot start a flight with anything other than 'Fair Weather' set??

If I change the weather to anything else the sim crashes and then re-starts.  Anyone else had a problem like this and got a cure?

I re-installed FS9 over the top of itself, and though it hasn't cured my problem the sim loads quicker now.  I havn't added any weather addons etc either so we can disount that.

I did install BOTA software, but this was 2 weeks ago now and all has been fine until yesterday.  I have uninstalled the BOTA software to, thus eliminating it as the problem.

So whats your suggestions?  Im open to trying anything.

This sounds like a video driver problem. Make sure your drivers are up to date. Also run DXDIAG from the run menu and go to the display tab and run the test there.
If any of these test fail then you either need a different driver or a new video card. 8)

Personally, I don't trust DXDiag. I've had many DirectX problems and the Diag kept telling me there were no problems. Maybe I just expect too much from it.

I got the latest vid drivers.  I dont think its my vid card as everything else game wise is working ok.  I run benchtests that should show up unstability and all is fine with no artifacts.

Thing is once the first flight is loaded with Fair weather, I can then go choose any type of weather I like?  and it all runs perfectly.  I just cannot start my first flight with anything other than Fair Weather set.

??? Gixer, I had the same problem after downloading a recent cloud addon. I don't remember the particular addon, but it was sometime last week.

I always back up my scenery folder before adding anything. Once I deleted the scenery folder with the cloud addon, and restored my backup, the problem was gone.

  I hope this helps.

Snowdancer has hit on something here. If you have made any changes to your effects folder that could be a problem.
The reason I suggested dxdiag was the direct play and direct draw test they have those test will let you know if your video card & drivers are up to par.
But as you stated the other stuff I do not pay that much attention to. 8)

I you recently installed a cloud addon (or another texture addon) then try ticking the 'render to texture' box, in the display settings.
If the texture was a different in size, then you have to tick this box otherwise fs crashes.

Only stuff I have added recently is BOTA stuff and the new Georender scenery.

I uninstalled BOTA and it still did it, so maybe its the new GEO causing the problem.  I best investigate and if it is this let the guys at FSaddon know!
