water refletion texture

Postby gabel » Mon Oct 04, 2004 1:58 am

Hi all ..
My problem is like this..
I installed the texture from page 4.
whenever I set the Water Effects to High and go for a test flight, the Water Effects will will drop back to Low.
I tried also setting the Global Scenery Quality to Ulta High, the Water Texture changes to High but when I go back to this menu I see it back again to Low. :'(
How can I set the Effecs on high to see the "reflection"???
Mybe something to change in the FS folder itself,is there a texture to download in which I don't have to set the Water Effects and still see the "water reflection"?

FS2004 on:
Win XP Pro
Intel Celeron CPU 2.40 Ghz,512 RAM
19" monitor on Gforce 4
1600 by 12000 resolution 32 bit color

The GeForce 4 will be where the problem lies, it couldn't handle reflective textures in FS2k2 either.
There was a fix released for FS2k2 that you could try (I won't promise it will work as I don't think anyone has tried it yet), but check out the third download down on this page http://www.simviation.com/fs2002misc11.htm

Hi there

Afraid you have 2 problems here

Celeron CPU
GeForce 4

You won't get the effects unfortunately

Perhaps someone who has had direct experience of both of these will happen along later to give you more info

I'm puzzled by what you guys mean by "reflections" in water ??? This water effect is sort of dynamic as there is movement in the water, but apart from the shadow I don't actually see a reflection of the plane :-/ I,m also a keen Links 2003 golfer and the water really reflects in that but never seen it in FS. Any body got screenshots?

Oh for textures like these in FS9..... ;D ;D

For some strange reason my GF4 Ti4600 I could set the water effects to high and it would stay at high ???

Hurt the FPS a bit though so only used to run with it on for screenies.

I think we are only talking about dynamic water effects in FS - plus you get sunlight/moonlight effects but not true reflections

That's what I thought Rollerball....sun, moon and waves breaking on the shorelines plus some nice bow waves etc when the seaplanes land and the water swirling around as in my pic...stuff like that but no reflections :(

but...you need a good set up to display these things so maybe that the reason for Gabel's probs.

With my current card I still dont see reflections as such in the water.  Just pretty effects  ;D
