glider no fly......

Postby flightmedic » Wed Sep 29, 2004 11:11 am

Hey all you fellow simers. Another ? here for you. My daughter has lost my manual for fs9 and I can't seem to figure this out.

How do I get my glider into the air????? I would like to fly it but on the ground.......heck I can do that in my truck!!!! ;D

Also, just a note. If you follow the flight training properly, it really does help you. I am currently partaking in my private pilots permit course and on my first "fam" flight the instructor wanted to see if the sim was acurate. he had me do some steep turns and acending / decending speed holding. after that he let me fly the circuit, and after seeing that I could hold the aircraft steady at 70 with flaps down, actually let me land the plane myself!! 8)  It was a great feeling. After 200 feet of the strip, I had complete control of the aircraft. I was in  a Cess - 172.  My first step to my childhood dream of flying.

You use slew mode, you press 'y' then press 'f4' to go up, then press 'f2' to stop going up and 'f3' to go down.  Move the joystick to move the glider position, and the rudder can be used to turn the glider.  When in position press 'y' again, this will take you out of slew mode.

It is quite tricky gliding, but fun when you get good at it.

I just go to the Map.  On the left side of the screen there are some position specs.  I believe there are things like co-ordinate locaiton, altitude, airspeed, heading, etc.  I input my desired altitude here and when I go back to the sim I'm at that height.  It's quite a challenge flying a glider at 100,000 feet!  Ever try landing the Wright Flyer from 3000 ft agl?  Not easy.

thank you very much. I did some gliding in cadets when I was younger, so I'll see if it is realistic. As for gliding from 100 000 ' .....hehehehe......that would be tricky. I wonder how long it will be before someone comes up with a FS model of that custom space craft that went into space again today. That and the shuttle are in fact.......BIG BOY gliders. That would be pretty cool.

thanks again

You can kinda catapult the glider up, bit like a winch kinda.  Goto the map as metioned before.

Add 10feet to your existing altitude (Need to be this high or it will crash) so if it is 540feet currently set it to 550feet.  In the speed bit set it to 150-200kts, more speed = higher alt gained.  Hold in up on your joystick and then hit enter on the map.  Gain as much height as you can before your speed decreases.

If you like gliders and would like some more go here
