Landing lights illuminating terrain

Postby Lysander77 » Sun Sep 19, 2004 2:50 pm

Are there any simulation aircraft -- those which come with FS9 or proprietary add-ons - with landing lights that will illuminate terrain (as opposed to an airfield runway)?  Something, for example, that would permit a landing in darkness on a farm field or roadway?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Try avsim.com and search for "Landing Lights Enhancement" in FS2004 Misc files

I use it and LOVE them

I use the xenon update (I got it at flightsim.com)

save the old texture in case you want to go back to it!

I found this file at avsim that told you how to edit the spotlight.bmp texture.  I edited mine to have more soft edges and a yellowish tint to the light.  More like a non-hallegen headlight, based off what I saw in some photos. ;D

Yeah... it is the simple things in life.  This one ranks up there with the asynchronous strobes update for "pet peeve killer file of the year" in my book.

PS:  We sort of "hijacked" this thread ... didn't we?  Sorry.   8)

Okay, I guess I'm missing something.  I've never installed the blinking light addon or the landing light addon, yet I was flying around NYC last night and found that the AI planes don't blink in unison and my landing lights do light up terrain outside of airports.  Am I missing something?  Or perhaps aliens abducted my computer and installed the mods when I wasn't looking...

ChrisF,

That's what I mean about "hijacking" the thread  ;).

My original landing lights also illuminated terrain other than airport runways.  The issue that I was interested in about Savas's post above was the improved visibility from the too bright default ones.  This download makes it VERY much better to taxi now.

As to the asynchronous strobes file.... well... you just have to try it to believe it.  All the plane and building lights and such now flash in the random and changing patterns that reflect real life.  I found that WONDERFUL file on another board a while back and posted it in a thread here.... and everyone who tried it then LOVED it.  Look back in the threads a bit... I can't remember where I found it.

best,

.................john
